After fighting for centuries to be together, Ever and Damen’s future hinges on one final showdown that will leave readers gasping for breath.  Don’t miss this explosive new installment of the #1 bestselling series that’s enchanted millions across the world!

Haven still blames Ever for the death of her boyfriend Roman, no matter how hard Ever’s tried to convince her it was an accident.  Now she’s determined to take Ever down…and destroy Damen and Jude along the way.  Her first step is to tear Ever and Damen apart—and she has just the ammunition to do it.

Hidden in one of Ever’s past lives is a terrible secret about Damen—a secret that illuminates new facts about her relationship with Jude, but that’s so dark and brutal it might be enough to drive her and Damen apart once and for all.  As Ever faces her greatest fears about the guy she wants to spend eternity with, she’s thrust into a deadly clash with Haven that could destroy them all.

Now it’ll take everything she’s got—and bring out powers she never knew she had—to face down her most formidable enemy.  But in order to win, she must first ask herself: is her own survival worth dooming Haven to an eternity of darkness in the Shadowland?  And will learning the truth about Damen’s past hold the key to their future?

This is the 5th installment in The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel and it just might be her best one yet. Night Star has all the makings of an excellent book - danger, drama, love, mystery, and wonderful characters that you'll surely enjoy. I honestly couldn't put this book down, wanting to know what happens next and how it will all end.

Alyson did a fantastic job developing Haven as Ever's ultimate "Immortal" enemy. Back when I read Blue Moon, I honestly thought Roman would be a force to reckon with, but Haven takes the cake. She drove me so crazy and I knew she would become power hungry and insane, but the way it all played out was interesting, unique, and there were many moments that I did not see coming. Noel definitely knows how to create a character you will truly hate, but also feel sorry for and realize the truth behind all their wrong-doings and evil ways.

What I enjoyed most about this book was how Ever finally grows up and becomes this amazingly strong and smart person who has truly learned from her mistakes and realized how she should look at the world. After everything that she's been through, most of which she did to herself, it made me really happy to see her grow from that, without which, she would never be able to defeat her enemies. Here, you see Ever as a mature woman who comes to grips with her reality and her destiny. I also loved how Miles plays a big role in this book, his character is one I've always enjoyed, with actions and drama that I didn't expect, but reveled in.

Probably the only thing that didn't live up to expectations was the "big secret" that Damen was hiding. I won't reveal it, but to me, it didn't seem like that big of a deal. Yes, it was questionable if you didn't know the whole story, and a bit sad, but was it really enough to drive them apart? I don't think it was a big enough problem to affect two people who are truly in love as Ever and Damen seem to be, but then again, Ever did always have a problem trusting Damen and his love, but the good thing is you'll see how that all changes and what really solidifies their relationship. And Jude, ah Jude, it's crazy how deeply entangled he keeps getting in Ever's life, both in the last book and this one.

After reading this book I immediately went to the next, and last one, Everlasting. I'm eager to see how it all ends and if Ever and Damen can ever truly be together. I swear, it seems like I've been waiting for their "special night" for as long as they have!
Confessions of a Boo-a-holic

First of all it took me a while to get through this. The beginning of the book as so damn redundant. I couldn't believe it. Really, I couldn't.

So recap. Ever and Damen are immortals. Roman has put a spell on them not allowing them to touch each other in the "real" world. Since Drina in Bk 1, there are about now three things (all because of Ever) that stand in her way: Roman, Haven, and Jude. Oh, but wait, right before Ever got the antidote in Dark Flame, Jude killed Roman. So I meant these three things that stand in the way of Ever and Damen truly being "together": Haven, Jude, and well of course, Ever herself. I mean man, life sucks for ever. No matter what she does, ultimatums, poorly executed plans, and backstabbing friends seem to stand in her and Damens way...and well also her.

So, like the last book Ever still seems to be focused on just her struggle with immortality and who she is destined to be with. But thee thing is, choosing between Jude and Damen should be easy...since Damen is immortal like herself and Jude well is not. So, in the last book Miles, one of Ever's friends (yup he's still here), hints to secrets Damen has been keeping from Ever about his past life. I've been dying to know, and because of this Ever decides that since Damen can't be honest with her, she needs another separation so she can choose for herself who she is destined to be with. Jude or Damen. As she keeps to herself, exploring the possibility of Jude and also trying to figure out ways to deal with out of control Haven. She loses sight of something else she seems to lose in every past life. Her family. She cares nothing about Sabine, and their relationship. Though she dwells often on her family from the past, what about the one she will have to eventually leave. Why isn't she putting some effort into maintaining that? I mean...Sabine is trying to help Ever. Then again it also could be a reflection of Orange County families, and their out of control children.

So in this book you get more of a feel for Jude, and Miles, and some other secondary characters. I liked that. Reading about Ever and Damen, and past life people was over bearing. I liked that Ever actually took notice to her friend, and began to trust him, like your are supposed to. Damen, I also like that he found other friends to, showed that he cared for more than just Ever, but other people also. That was very intriguing. The writing as much better, though Ever did go off on long tangents of who does she truly love, how does she know, blah, blah. There's a twist in the middle of the book that makes it really hard to put down. Only, I wish that it would have went further. I wish Ever would have realized more than what she did, maybe even saw the poor way she was treating Sabine and how Sabine is dealing with all this. I mean she should care and love Sabine more than Damen. Just a tad.

Yet it also elaborated on the muddy Abyss in Summerland, and the two other immortals and maybe what is the effect of Drina, Roman, other immortals that may have been casted to the Shadowland. It causes for an intriguing wonder as to what exactly will happen in the final book, what will be the repercussions of Damen and Ever living like thier happiness is the only one that matters, and their ability to be able to touch is the supreme problem in the now, when it could be something bigger than that. Much bigger.

In the final book, will ever get the antidote and what price will she have to pay now?

Overall this is a pretty good installment in the series. Much better than Dark Flame--towards the end. HAHA. I mean if you gotten this far in the series, you might as well just see if there was more to the story than just Ever and Damen trying to be together...and I'm sure the climax wont be that bad either.
Have you ever stopped halfway through a book and started a new one? Night Star was the first time for me. It goes nowhere. At one point the author states, "The weeks go by, but nothing much changes." That is how I felt about the last THREE books. Three books could have easily been condensed into one, because the story has gone nowhere, and 2/3 of every book seems to ramble on and on until the last 20 pages or so.
not making one.
It is a novel. Or so it claims to be a novel on the cover. It should read like a novel, not an Facebook newsfeed. Complete sentances, PLEASE!
I was really hooked by Evermore. Even Blue Moon had me wanting the next saga. And then the story stalled. Now I just want it to end. Because seriously, if Ever and Damen are stuck in this horrible neverending storyline forever, they should punch each other in the throat to put themselves out of that misery. I've wasted about a week of my life on this series. I couldn't imagine being stuck in it for eternity. The worst part of it, there was so much potential there!

The other thing that is a personal quirk of mine is the whole So Cal thing. I know that alot of people in Southern California think that they are better than the rest of the world, and we should know everything- the whole TMZ mindset. It was cute in Evermore when Damen whisked Ever away to Disneyland. I am over the PCH and Malibu and Mullholland and all the other So Cal references.
