The "Heads Up! is the story of a family who loses all that they possess, with the exception of one another, the clothes on their backs, and one quarter. This family went to live with Grandma and Grandpa, until they could get back on their feet. Whoever left the house looking for work, Mom or Dad, took the quarter, just in case they needed to phone home in an emergency.

Molly Schaar Idle is the talented author/illustrator of a number of books from Abingdon Press, including the successful Christmas book, "Emma's Gift" and most recently "Nighty Night, Noah. She has worked as an artist for Dream Works Feature Animation and PBS Kids. She and her family live in Tempe, Arizona.

The story goes where the quarter goes--to Grandma and Grandpa's house, out looking for work, to the park--and ends up somewhere surprising. In the end we discover it doesn't matter how little we possess, as long as we have one another and faith in God.

A young girl faces a reversal of fortune when her family's store goes out of business and the family is forced to move in with her grandparents. They have a quarter for emergency use only and while a beautiful doll (her mother notices her want when she sees her gazing at the doll and makes her a rag doll out of scraps; the doll is rejected and the mother is very sad, I found this heartbreaking)and an amusement park ride are tempting, the quarter is spared. Her father finally gets a job and the family goes out to celebrate at the ice cream store where he now works. The message is, anything can be faced and any obstacle overcome if you trust in God and love each other. Beautifully illustrated.

Possessions may come and go, but through good times and bad, family and faith remain. Heads Up is a beautifully written and illustrated tale of the importance of a loving family. A family favorite in our home! The vibrantly colored illustrations tell the story as well as the text, and hold even our one-year-old's interest. This would be a great book for early readers to read to Mom and Dad. Heads Up is a wonderful addition to any library!

I don't want to give away the ending, but it will make you feel good. The story underlines the importance of family, even when money is tight. Underlines it in bright colors.

You'll enjoy the care this professional illustrator (the liner says she worked for dreamworks) took with every page.
