I am a sucker for books about smart kids and I enjoyed this. Piper Banks is the pseudonym for author Whitney Gaskell. It is no classic, but it was enjoyable.

You’ll be off the hook, Finn said later that afternoon. Finn, Charlie, and I were hanging out at Grounded, a coffee shop located just around the corner from school. eria, and there was still a hand-painted mural of Venice along one wall. But the booths with the red vinyl benches that had been there during the pizzeria days were long gone, replaced with sleek round aluminum tables and café chairs. The counter doubled as a display case for the pastries for sale, and behind it there was an enormous hissing espresso machine.

Ok, so I saw this book in Barnes & Noble about a year ago and decided that I just HAD to read it. The back cover description introduced a plot not overused in the chick-lit genre! Naturally when I received a kindle and money for my birthday I bought and read this book. Let's just say that Geek High did not live up to my expectations. The plot was the basic looser becomes semi-popular and gets the super sweet guy. The only truly unique aspect of this book was that the protagonist went to a school for gifted students. This means that, technically, the kids who attended were mostly geeks if sent to regular school. The only good piece of this book is Miranda Bloom, the protagonist. She is very easy to relate to. Read it if you want to, but it would not be on the top of my to read shelf. 2.5 stars.

It's was extremely interesting, with the waiting for who will be with who. The great vocabulary used made me want to ask of how she came up with it. I love this book!

Miranda Bloom can be described in one word: Normal. Or maybe two: Slightly Normal.

Her life consists of a laid-back mother, an absentee father who just married a demon (more on that later), two pretty sane friends, a dog who loves her dearly, and no boyfriend (which she hopes will change in just a matter of time). She isn't the prettiest, or the ugliest, and she doesn't have a major talent. She can do an equation before you can say calculator, but that isn't really a talent since she can easily be replaced by a calculator.

It's a new year though, and Miranda hopes she can turn her life around. Make it even better than it is right now, which might take a while. From having the hottest and sweetest guy, Emmett Dutch, notice her, to avoiding vicious comments from the evil Felimonster, Felicity Glen, this is the year she truly wants to remember.

Unfortunately for Miranda, this new year of hers doesn't start out so great. Her mom decides to abandon her and go to London to do some research for her new book. That means Miranda has to move into her dad's drab house, which includes his new demon wife and her demon spawn, the oh-so-perfect Hannah. Her crush, Emmett, does notice her though, but only because Miranda trips on the first day of school right in front of him. And when Emmett first meets Miranda's stepsister, Hannah, it is love at first sight, which is good for Hannah but totally bad for Miranda.

Can Miranda survive living with her dad, find a talent, find at least one guy who would go out with her, and navigate Geek High while trying to make this the year to remember?

The first in a new series, GEEK HIGH is definitely GEEKTASTIC!

Miranda Bloom hates being a math genius. Ever since she was a small child, adults have been asking her incredibly difficult math questions...questions that Miranda has no problem answering. This ability has landed her into Notting Hill Independent School for Gifted Children....more affectionately known as Geek High, where the only thing she's really good at, she hates.

To make matters worse, at the start of her sophomore year, Miranda's mother takes off for London, leaving her to live with her estranged father and his cold wife and her daughter. Then she's blackmailed into being in charge of the school's Snowflake Gala, a job she'd rather avoid, because that means she'll need a date to the event. And unfortunately the only guy she's crushing on has fallen for her materialistic stepsister....

Geek High is an amusing, fun, and light read. Miranda's straightforward and humorous voice is highly entertaining. She's the ideal role model for teens today: fresh, down to earth, intelligent and not afraid to show it. Teens will find themselves relating easily to the characters, and the situation with Miranda's step-family will shake the story up a bit. Don't worry about understanding derivatives or finding pi to the 15th decimal place: Geek High is an entirely absorbing and ideal read for geniuses and us average people alike.

Okay, so this book probably would have been a lot more interesting to me when I was younger, but hey, I am always going to support books that tell young women it's awesome to be intelligent. The book reads kind of like a cross between Mean Girls and the Princess Diaries books, and it's a fun little fluff read if you're looking for something that's not too heavy. I'll probably end up checking out the next books in the series, just because curiosity gets the best of me, but overall, it's a predictable story and not much sets it apart from your typical young adult romance piece.
