The previous reviewer summarized the plot well enough, and it's a good story and leads to a satisfying conclusion. I am going to add here that I've read several books by this writer and there is a problem with his narrator-hero Jay Leicester. He's like one of those sociopathic liars who can't remember the lies they've previously told.

Some examples: In this book, set in 2007, he's a retired airplane pilot with 25 years experience, a university graduate who became a pro football player with the Baltimore Colts, had a couple years in a university in Californian learning about wine (stated in a different book), yet he's only 43 (or 44? can't remember). He states repeatedly in the book that he always works alone, but he never does as he's got a seemingly endless supply of friends. And many of these friends are Vietnam vets who, in 2007, would probably be way past the kind of things he has them doing in the books.

In short, the narrator's biography does not really work in the time frame of this novel.

If you are considering reading this book you either already are reading the authors series or were brought here by the title to jacket. Whatever prompts you to consider reading a novel I would say this is worth the read. The charm, wit and protective nature of this collective group of misfits, shy one of the usual characters, gather to solve a 25 year old death assumed to have been an accident. Naturally once again the authors inside knowledge on aircraft is interestingly threaded throughout and is how he as always how he is pulled into the case. Countryside, characters possibilities of love, kinship...nicely woven into a good one.

This eighth book in the Jay Leicester series is another example of a good plot, great characters, and an interesting conclusion. JC Simmons has become a favorite author.

JC Simmons has written 10 mysteries, I've read them all. I loved each one, kept me reading, couldn't put them down. He develops his characters, you can almost see them as you read.

Story is filled with intrigue as Jay puts together a team to discover where the pilot of a plain vanished to 20 years before and who caused this happening on his land. Typical problems occur and the mystery is revealed in the end. A good story.

Nice story. All his Brooks send time looking at little details, but lend little to the story. Need to stock to the story.

Jay had moved permanently to his Back 80 in the wilds of Newton County, Mississippi. Alone again, coming to gripes with the unexpected departure of his last girlfriend ,Jay's confronted with a-twenty five year old mystery that centered upon his secluded property. Twenty five years ago a woman in her little yellow Piper Super Cub took off from a-small grass strip once located on his property and completely vanished. No sightings, no wreckage and no apparent reason, leaving behind a six year old daughter. That little girl , no longer little a girl but a woman of consequence, she wanders, early one morning onto Jay's property and into his life. Unsurprisingly to find out about her mothers disappearance and if possibly her mother was murdered and by whom. Jay just begins looking into things when the treats begin. Threats against B.W. His black and white Siamese cat, older neighbor Rose English and his new client Sunny Pfieffer. Jay's problems are not just in the fact that 25 years have passed but that it includes some of his oldest friends .
This is one of his better mysteries, well written with engaging characters and situations.
My last remaining thought is, why is the little plane on the cover blue?
This is a fascinating story of a 25-year-old disappearance that no one had been able to solve - no clues whatsoever. That is, no one until Jay Leicester. Luck and perseverance, a few twists and turns, a few blind alleys and there you have it, the satisfying conclusion of a story left in the air for way too long. I think Jay is settling down though and living a slower paced lifestyle. Yet the story remains fascinating...kept my attention throughout.
