Guilty Wives was different from other books I have read by James Patterson and his numerous co-authors

I was curious to see how their two styles would blend together and quickly realized that there was a legal/courtroom facet to this story (Ellis' forte) and a mystery aspect (Patterson. Guilty Wives was different from other books I have read by James Patterson and his numerous co-authors. The exploration of what happens on a girls' weekend gone I will freely admit I still read every James Patterson book that comes out.

Kmaceadie says: I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed this one very much. To me, James Patterson is a hit or miss author. Sometimes he gets them right and this is one of those times. alone and one of the best he has ever written. The plot line is tight and moves at a neck-breaking speed. The ending is a total shocker, at least for me it wa. won't give away too much but what I will tell you is that if you should decide to read this book, you will not be disappointed. I calls 'em as I sees 'em and this one is a winner.

"No husbands allowed"

Only minutes after Abbie Elliot and her three best friends step off a private helicopter, they enter the most luxurious, sumptuous, sensually pampering hotel they have ever been to. For four days in Monte Carlo they re free to live someone else s life. As the weekend brings pulsating discos, high-stakes casinos, and more, Abbie is transported, finding the greatest pleasure and release she has ever known.

"What happened last night?"

In the morning s harsh light, Abbie awakens on a yacht, surrounded by police. Abbie, Winnie, Serena, and Bryah are arrested and accused of the foulest crime imaginable. And now the vacation of a lifetime becomes the fight of a lifetime for survival. Guilty Wives is the ultimate indulgence, the kind of nonstop joyride of excess, friendship, betrayal, and danger that only James Patterson can create. "

Thankfully I was able to save my money and I borrowed this book from the public library.

I usually love JP books. This one just did not deliver like others have. Overall, I dread saying this--but, I would pass on reading this one.

I had a very hard time getting into this story--normally I can not put down his books but, with this book--I kept forcing myself to pick it up and read as I knew it just had to get better since I loved his other books. Finally, with more than half the book over, it started to pick up.

Abbie Elliot and her friends go to Monte Carlo for a girls only retreat. The next day, they are all arrested for murder. The story details the life of Abbie in prison. Eventually Abbie escapes so she can prove as to who really did the murder and to clear her name.

I think I may have found it a tad more interesting if it also talked about the other girls and what they thought but, I am not even really sure about that.

So, to say again--I would skip this book and find something better to read.

I'm writing this just because it's clear that most reviewers here are Patterson fans. I'm not. I bought and read his first two or three, then went to the library in hopes he might improve, but to the contrary, there was an obvious downward slide in quality of writing and plotting once he could count on his name selling books to folks about to board airplanes. His one-dimensional characters bobsled through simpleminded prose. David Ellis is, or was, precisely the opposite, the author of brilliantly plotted, beautifully written books. But when I saw them paired together I could not resist hoping that Ellis would pull the quality up, so I bought this book. What a mistake! A comic book without the nice pictures. Dull, dull, dull. And when I looked to see what Ellis is working on at the moment and saw that this partnership has ENDURED, that he is even now working on a book where his name barely appears on the cover, I felt a groan of pessimism that will drive me RIGHT NOW to the latest John Sandford for cheering up. Or go abroad to Jo Nesbo.

I don't know why but I liked this book. It was tense, graphic, and yes the treatment they received was horrendous but that's part of the story. I could very well see this happen in real life especially in a jail overseas. I wish those that caused this could have gone thru the same treatment that she did, but anyway I found this story entertaining.

I don't think I've read or listened to a James Patterson book. For some reason, I thought his books were a different genre. But this was a fascinating book that I was listening to in the car. I was "forced" to take the long way home yesterday since my errands were compete, but I HAD to get to the ending (always an indication of a fantastic mystery/thriller!)

I'm elated to discover James Patterson as a NEW (to me) writer. That opens soup MANY new books and books on CD for me!

I HIGHLY recommend this book (and the book on CD, the narrator was really great with women, men, accents. There were only two characters that I didn't like their "voices" and one was a man who had a french accent but sounded like a woman; the other was a jamaican and that just seems like a difficult accent to do, almost a parody of itself). The rest of the book and ALL it's characters, well, that's a LOT of people and I thought the narrator did an amazing job!

This book wasn't outstanding, it wasn't extraordinary and it wasn't dreadfully awful; it was OKAY at BEST! I can tell that James Patterson and David Ellis worked hard to help the reader visualize both Monte Carlo and France but there is a such thing as TOO MUCH description and this entire book is a clear example of that. On the plus sides for this book, it was a great suspense read but it dragged on FOREVER and didn't really pick up until you were about 70% into it. But by that time a lot of readers probably stopped reading it and didn't care to know what happened after all.

I pushed myself to finish this book and honestly I'm glad I did because the TRUTH FINALLY CAME OUT and Abbie became my favorite character and heroine. She truly stood by what she believed and didn't let anyone strip or deter her from that. She was strong and resilient and for that, I loved her as a character.

While this book was good I will not be recommending it someone else.

...but after reading some of the reviews here on Amazon, I decided not to spend money to buy the entire book but to request it from my local library. If the book has a disappointing ending, at least I will not have wasted my money.
UPDATE: Borrowed and finished the whole book. The first part was exciting, the middle about the trial and prison life was boring and drawn out, and the end was exciting once again! Wonder if the authors took turns writing it. One person wrote the exciting parts and the second one wrote the boring ones. It was rather uneven. You have to suspend belief with this story. It was more than fiction; it was really a fantasy. Housewife becomes Ms. James Bond/Ms. 007. Don't know if I will read another one of these "James Patterson-plus-another-author" books again.

I bought this book when it first came out and still have it unfinished on my Kindle. James Patterson has bottomed out with this novel...or is David Ellis the guilty party? Patterson novels have been getting increasingly thin in substance over the past couple of years. His absorption with maximizing the profitability of his franchise status by pumping out novel after novel in conjunction with other lesser known authors is destroying his brand. I tried reading this book time and time again, but have only made it to the 20% mark. It is too painful. The plot is totally unbelievable, the characters are pathetically constructed--or not constructed at all--to the point of being insulting to the reader. Patterson has been an auto-buy for me...just received Private London which I haven't read yet. No more auto-buys though. He has lost my trust. This book is pure garbage. Hopefully Private London will restore some faith...
