This version of Garamond was modeled on a 1592 specimen sheet from the Egenolff-Berner foundry, which was produced from types thought to have been brought to Frankfurt by Jacques Sabon (d. 1580).

Patterson graduated in 1968 from Ohio Wesleyan University and has been awarded that school’s Distinguished Achievement Citation and his national fraternity’s Alumni Achievement Award.

The campaign trail is amazing, the romance touching and the way RNP takes us to the past of the protagonist Kerry Kilcannon is just great. com User, July 19, 2001. A Kennedyesque Senator Kerry Kilcannon is running for his party's nomination for president against the vice president. This book follows Kerry's campaign across the country in the days leading up to the primary. In the end, the focus is on California, where Kerry needs to win.

The author has a talent for dropping the reader right into the action in the first sentences. In this case, a demented, gun-wielding young man enters an abortion clinic and begins shooting. With this, Patterson embarks on entertaining us with political rhetoric, hammering us with protagonist Kerry Kilcannon's speeches ad nauseum. It's not that I object to his philosophy, it's simply overkill. The righteousness of the candidate meets that of his would-be assassin--again and again and again...

The story evokes the memory of both Kennedy brothers slain for political causes. Kilcannon's love interest is believable, as is the unscrupulous current VP, against whom our hero is running. The media, most notably the press, are portrayed convincingly; altruistic, conniving, and weary.

Patterson is a superb story teller and when he sticks to characters, plots, and sub-plots, he shows mastery of his craft. No Safe Place is not a prime example of his writing.

If you can overlook Patterson's lecturing, you will still enjoy the story.

I've read nearly all of Richard North Patterson's previous books. I've liked them quite a lot mostly. In this current series of 3 (of which this is the first) he is at the very top of his game. In several of his past books he seemed to spend a fair portion of the book ruminating about childhood traumas as the focus of the book. This series is different. The focus is much more in the present and the characters past is mentioned much more briefly as an explanation of their complexity. I couldn't put the book down and am in the middle of the rest of the series now - it really is one long story in three books. It shows a behind the scenes view of American Politics that is much like the view I get from the TV series West Wing. You get the feeling that the people really do and say and think the things his characters do. He has villains (of course) but they are also multi-dimensional people and even though you don't agree with their view of the world and why they do villainous things, you can see why THEY have those views. Highly recommended! This is an author who has only gotten better over the years.

This book was published eighteen years ago yet many of the same issues are as important today as they were then, especially the issue of gun control. Kerry is a little too wonderful for my taste. He spoke softly or softened his voice about every other page. I probably won't read the next book.

This was a great mix of fiction-excitement and politics. Being from New Jersey, I was able to confer with someone close to Neward politics and he said how accurate the Newark scenes were. While I don't often feel sympathy for politicians, this book at least lets us know what they have to go through to become President. WE COULD REALLY USE A KERRY KILCANNON IN POLITICS! Also, if anyone is a R.N. Patterson fan, you should read "Private Screening" and "Silent Witness" as small aspects of No Safe Place relate to the prior books. NOTE: you need not read them to enjoy Place.

This book was a bit slow at the beginning, but the farther I read, the better it got. The writing, plot, and characterization were all excellent. The most surprising thing to me was that the author made the entire thing so completely believable. I think that's a rare accomplishment. This is the first Patterson book I've read (he seems to write mostly crime/mystery stories, which I'm not nuts about), and I'm so glad I had the experience.

Very good read, but all the hyphenation were distracting. Maybe it's because I read it on a kindle, but I've never seen that before. Great story though.

Although I read the sequel first, I found the political intrigue, mixed with pure human curiosity enough to keep me reading.

I always enjoy REP's writing, and since getting my new Kindle Fire, am very busy catching up.
Content of book is great, but there were 40 pages missing, and 40 other pages duplicated in my copy. Aggravating to have to buy a second copy to complete a partially read book.
