New York Times bestselling author. Fielding deals confidently and tenderly with her subjects, and her plots and subplots are engaging. Julia rolled large green eyes toward the ceiling. We had a deal, Cindy reminded her. I’ll walk him later.

Joy Fielding (née Tepperman; born March 18, 1945) is a Canadian novelist and actress. As Joy Tepperman, she had a brief acting career, appearing in the film Winter Kept Us Warm (1965) and in an episode of Gunsmoke. She lives in Toronto, Ontario. She later changed her last name to Fielding (after Henry Fielding) and began writing novels. Fielding is also the screenwriter of the television film Golden Will: The Silken Laumann Story. At the age of 8, Joy Tepperman wrote her first story and sent it into a local magazine, and at age 12 sent in her first TV script, however both were rejected. I enjoy Joy Fielding, have never read a book that I didn't like written by her. Shadow Creek is a little more gory I think then most of her books' have been, but I found it interesting from the first, an easy read, and hard to put down. I read it in one sitting

I enjoy Joy Fielding, have never read a book that I didn't like written by her. I read it in one sitting. I am retired, so I don't have hours that I have to adhere to, and I'm not much of a sleeper) If you don't like blood and gore, don't read this. But it is not as bad as many other horror stories.

We are all dysfunctional in our own way so don't judge this too harshly. The back and forth between mother and teenage daughter is painful, but anyone who has raised teen girls can attest that it can get brutal at times. This is a page turner because you care what happens, but not much does, so the book becomes just an average read. Borrow from the library or from a friend and don't purchase--not good enough to keep and re-read in a few years.

421 pages of repetitive nonsensical drivel. Character's unworthy of caring about & the author bangs you over the head with the same thing continuously. Very boring. I have 2 other books by this author & am considering not even opening them. I'll watch TV if I want to be bored.

Great author!

This was a very good book. I finished it in one day. Joy Fielding has a way of writing mysteries that keep you reading and reading.
This particular story is about Cindy, a fortyish divorcee who is struggling with a relationship with her oldest daughter. One day Julia {the daughter} goes missing and what transpires is so gut wrenching you can almost feel for the characters
It also explores what we really know about each other and in a time of crisis what really counts and who really cares. For any parent struggling with a relationship with an adult child this book really hits the spot in a lot of areas.
My hats off to Joy Fielding for another fine novel.

Joy Fielding was one of my favorite authors. Until I read this last book. I was not thrilled with Whispers and Lies, but looked forward to Lost. It appears that her talent has run out. Two books in a row that failed to capture my attention; I skimmed the last 100 pages of Lost. Character development is poor; these people are not even likeable. It will be a long time, if ever, before I'm picking up a Joy Fielding book again. It was good while it lasted.
Turn on your fans, folks and open the windows! This one's a stinker! I wish I could give it a rating in the negative numbers.

I am sorry, but this book was truly a stinker. I didn't like the protagonist, potty mouthed shrill shrew and screamer Cindy Carver at all. I also thought the story was ridiculous and implausible.

Cindy does some remarkably stupid things, like allowing her 19-year-old daughter Heather have her boyfriend set up residence in the family home. She also attacks and accuses people she suspects have abducted her 21-year-old daughter, Julia. Cindy was such an asinine character.

1. The only time Cindy remembers Heather is when she mistakes her for Diva Julia, who has been missing for several days.

2. Cindy levels ludicrous accusations at people.

3. She has an annoying mother and equally annoying whinebag sister who charge and barge their way into her home.

4. She all but has an affair with her ex-husband who is truly a boorish oaf.

5. The ex-husband plays a very sick and macabre trick that made an already bad story even worse.

The only likable characters were Elvis, the Diva Daughter's wheaten terrier and a trusting accountant named Neil, who endures that odious Cindy well beyond what the average person's tolerance level would have been. I also disliked the stupid and implausible subplot with the next-door neighbors and their infant son.

Skip this book. The only things lost will be your money and/or your time. If you decide that your curiosity is piqued and you want to read this, then check it out of the library so you don't waste your money. Sadly, only your time will be wasted.
