In Susan Isaac's Long Time No See, Courtney Logan, former investment analyst, devoted mother, and Long Island housewife, leaves her home on Halloween . Yet LONG TIME NO SEE still may be her best book in years.

In Susan Isaac's Long Time No See, Courtney Logan, former investment analyst, devoted mother, and Long Island housewife, leaves her home on Halloween night for . . Her heroine, Judith Singer, whom Issacs' devoted readers first met in COMPROMISING POSITIONS, has aged beautifully. Around this amateur sleuth-Miss Marples if Miss Marples were a Donna Karan-clad, card-carrying member of Weight Watchers living in an affluent New York suburb-Issacs has constructed a mystery.

Long Time No See is Susan Isaacs at her wickedly observant best. With razor-sharp wit and an irresistible mystery, she brings us back in touch with an engaging, endearing and irreverent heroine we haven’t seen in far too long.

Gloria Garrison nee Goldberg isn’t getting any younger. At seventy-nine, it’s time for her to plan for the future of Glory, In. the Santa Fe-based beauty makeover business that Gloria has grown from zilch into an r bonanza. But now Gloria has alienated her former business partner and chosen successor. Long Time No See is Susan Isaacs at her wickedly observant best. Susan’s inspiration for Long Time No See. Hilarious satire of suburbia.

I’d rehearsed what I would say to Greg as I was putting on eyeliner. Not bad, I thought: both the makeup and the introduction. ed to the same person. As for the second, I thought the simple intro sounded pleasant, self-assured. Pert was the last thing a guy needed one week after his late wife was found in his backyard pool.

"On an unseasonably warm Halloween night, while I was reading a snappy treatise on Wendell Wilkie's support of FDR's war policies and handing out the occasional bag of M&M's to a trick-or-treater, the fair-haired and dimpled Courtney Logan, age thirty-four, magna cum laude graduate of Princeton, erstwhile investment banker at Patton Giddings, wife of darkly handsome Greg, mother of five-year-old Travis, canner of spiced pears, collector of vintage petit point, and ex-president of citizens for a more beautiful Shorehaven vanished from long island into thin air."

Judith Singer is back! After twenty years Susan Isaacs brings us back the heroine from Compromising Positions, her first and most beloved novel and returns to a great suspense story set in suburbia. Judith's life has changed. She now has her doctorate in history. Her workaday hours are spent at St. Elizabeth's College, mostly squandered in history department shriek-fests. She is also a widow. Her husband Bob died one half-day after triumphantly finishing the New York City Marathon in four hours and twelve minutes. And although twenty years have passed without seeing him, she still cannot get her former lover, Nelson Sharpe of the Nassau County Police Department, out of her system.

With Courtney Logan's dramatic disappearance, all eyes turn instantly toward her husband, Greg Logan, son of Long Island mobster Philip "Fancy Phil" Lowenstein. But since there is no body, there is no arrest. Then, in the less-than-merry month of May, Judith comes home from work, turns on the radio, and hears the Logans' pool man telling a reporter that he opened the pool and found . . . a raccoon? Not quite. "I see, you know, it's a body! Jeez. Believe it or not, I'm still shaking." The woman in the pool turns out to be Courtney, and now it's officially homicide. And Judith comes alive! She offers her services to the police's chief suspect, Greg Logan, but he shows her the door, thinking her just another neighborhood nut. But his father isn't so sure: Fancy Phil may have other plans for her.

Long Time No See is Susan Isaacs at her wickedly observant best. With razor-sharp wit and an irresistible mystery, she brings us back in touch with an engaging, endearing and irreverent heroine we haven't seen in far too long.

With a sharp ear and eye for the folks living on the north side of Long Island, people who love to call where they live the Gold Coast and where they shop the Miracle Mile, Issacs gives us characters we enjoy and like and a mystery that is very intelligent without wasting time with red herrings. The solution is hard to guess because the criminal is smart and devious, not because the author has been leading you astray. All characters have full personalities, unexpected quirks and non-stereotypical surprises. A good mystery with chuckles and out loud laughs. Recommended for everyone.

I remember loving COMPROMISING POSITION, and I was delighted when I chanced upon this sequel. It is not as exciting or unique as the first, but Susan Isaacs is consistently a good writer and her skills do not disappoint here. I was happy to follow up on her delightful and original heroine, always wondering what direction her life might take. If Ms. Isaacs wrote a third episode, I would definitely read it!

This is the second Susan Isaacs' book I have read. I am looking forward to the other books as each is giving me hours of enjoyment. Thank you Susan for the great writing and thank you to the editors who have kept the correct grammar, spelling and such going along so well, of course she might be perfect and need no editors, who knows.
