For the Truly Awesome Molly Friedrich, and for Peter and Kiki. The Criminal Justice Center in Philadelphia is a newly built courthouse and the holding cells adjoining the courtrooms resemble small, modern offices. Clear bulletproof plastic has supplanted atmospheric iron bars and the white-painted cinderblock walls are still clean and relatively unscuffed. Elliot Steere’s cell contained a white Formica bench, a stainless steel toilet, and a half-sink.

A stunning legal thriller, Rough Justice, by Edgar Award winner Lisa Scottoline, breaks new ground in fiction's hottest genre and launches a riveting series featuring the adventures of an all-woman law firm.

Woolworth’s was the only open store on Chestnut Street and it smelled simultaneously of disinfectant and dirt. Her pulse thudded, her chest heaved. Her pulse thudded, her chest heaved w her breathing and ease the pain. She slumped in the booth like a boxer in his corner. There was no noise outside the booth, and Marta suspected she was the only person in the store except for the salesclerks in their red smocks, two of whom she’d run into as she was coming in. The store would be closing in ten minutes, they told her, wide-eyed at her bedraggled appearance

A stunning legal thriller, Rough Justice, by Edgar Award winner Lisa Scottoline, breaks new ground in fiction's hottest genre and launches a riveting series featuring the adventures of an all-woman law firm. As Rough Justice opens, criminal lawyer Marta Richter is only hours away from winning an acquittal on a murder charge leveled against her client, millionaire businessman Elliot Steere. Infuriated, Marta sets out to find the evidence that will convict Steere before the jury returns with its verdict.During the worst blizzard Philadelphia has ever seen, Marta drafts help in the form of two able-bodied young lawyers -- Mary DiNunzio and Judy Carrier -- from the all-female firm Rosato & Associates. Needs a better editor. While I agree the book is fast paced and a quick read, there are some loose ends that do not get resolved. Spent too much of the book in far fetched scenerios that should have spent on writing the ending. It felt rushed. Also, the reference to the smell of acrylics and turpentine is incorrect. Acrylics are water based and do not use turp and a solvent, oil paints use turpentine as a solvent. Better fact checking.

Crime doesn't pay with this crew. This group will risk their life for the truth. It pays to have these women on one's team. I love the characters and their quirks. Every journey reveals more about these strong women. This time they defend a sociopathic slum lord. Who killed a homeless guy. Self defense? Guess again. Thanks for the thrilling ride Lisa.;)

I just completed my 5th Rosato & Associates book and I am absolutely hooked! I've been a thriller reader for several years now and, unfortunately, most of my favorite authors have either died or stopped writing for other reasons. I keep trying new names with decent reviews but I'm usually disappointed because most of the new names don't seem to know how tell a great story without a huge amount of needless complexity and meaningless plots. Not here!

Lisa Scottoline is the most concise author I've ever experienced. Her characters are described in a colorful and concise manner that is very special. You rapidly become attached to them and thoroughly enjoy their successes and predicaments. There is always great and meaningful humor in her stories.

I hope she will keep Rosato & Associates alive in the future! I promise to read every single one!

Try this author! She will probably win you over too!

It found its way into the garbage. Unlike other books by this author, this one I would give an R rating to it. Disappointed. A waste of my money

Great character development. Uses different women with different personalities even though all are lawyers. This snow storm is not one that I would want to be found trying to solve a mystery. Gret tension with several characters working in different directions all at once.

I do enjoy Scottoline, and I particularly liked Marta in this book. A good, fast-paced book that took less than a day to read .... Bennie and Judy and Mary are like old friends that are entertaining to meet up with once again. Deep, complex fiction? No, but a fun way to pass a cold, cloudy day.

If you take out all the f words this book would only be about 10 pages long. She has great ideas and is a good writer but this book sounds like its written by a seventh grade boy trying to learn to cuss. If she would stop with the filthy language she could be a great writer.
I have enjoyed all of Lisa Scottoline's books. I just finished the last I this series and haven't been able to get interested in anything since! Maybe I'll just wait for the next one to come out! ha ha
