But when she discovers a way to have the life she's always dreamed of, she is reluctant to go. Leaving means choosing between the things she holds most dear. But waiting too long to decide may cost her everything and leave her trapped in a fate far worse than death.

Sleeper Cells was an unexpectedly fascinating book! I "purchased" it because it was free at the time and looked interesting. Once I started it, it grabbed me pretty much from the get-go and didn't let up.

The concept was very intriguing, alien-human hybrids integrating into society to eventually literally take over the world because their world is dying. Their alien race does not experience emotions at all but it seems some of the hybrids on Earth are starting to. And when they start to experience emotions and act on them, the Elders step in and have them killed. This story focuses on Kat, a hybrid who has experienced emotions her whole life and what happens with her life when she starts to fall in love and become more important in the plot to take over the world.

Sleeper Cells was very exciting and entertaining, and I highly recommend it. I went with a 4-star rating (rather than 5 stars) because there definitely are some editing issues, typos, etc. But none of that made me not like reading this story. It was free when I bought it, it's 99 cents now, I say get it before somebody gets smart and "officially" publishes it, making it more expensive!

There are so many grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and logic errors in this book that I found it very distracting. Simple things like "you're" where "your" belongs, run-on sentences that made it difficult to know what was being said, and lack of logical flow from one scene to another just ruined (for me) what could have been a good story. In fact, the story line -- lacking as it is -- is the only reason this book gets 2 stars from me. PLEASE!!!! Next time, hire a good editor and do your part to save the language, at least!

This has the makings of a very neat series. The characters were engaging and the story moved at a good pace. I really liked the concept and how the author developed it. It had a good ending that leaves you wanting to continue the journey with these characters.

This is an excellent story, well-paced and keeping you intrigued throughout the story. An original and nowhere close to cookie-cutter type tale, it will keep you hanging until the action-packed end. This is well worth the purchase!

I really enjoyed reading this book, I had a hard time putting it down until I finished it. I can't wait for the next chapter in her life :)

I'm going to be honest; I mostly prefer to read YA paranormal or fantasies books. I have never been a fan of sci-fi, but once you start to read this book, you get pull into it thanks to the story line and the writing.
The main character, Kat, has to face many conflicts, both internal and external, without having the wrong people discover she has feelings. Something that it is not supposed to happen biologically on her race.
Desjardins maintained a nice balance between action and romantic scenes where you could actually feel scare and exhilarated for the fate of its characters. Set on modern day Washington DC, the plot line moves with a flow from chapter to chapter showing the torn decisions Kat has to make.
Overall, the book was very well written with kick-ass heroine. Kat was able to work out almost everything at the end, but with just many problems along the way. Definitely has a series potential.
