Coulter did a rewrite of this series, and I didn't like the new version. Read this old version maybe 15 years ago and wanted to find it again. Book was in good condition. Story wise, it's probably not for everyone as there are some questionable scenes (rape, suggestion of drugged sex). Still, it's a good read overall.

I'm gracing this book with two stars only because Catherine Coulter wrote it. The book certainly doesn't deserve it. Having read most of Coulter's other work, I can only conclude that she was having some sort of mental lapse during this book's creation. I would never have matched this hero and heroine. There was simply no connection between them, besides him saving her. They should have just been friends and gone on to more pleasant love stories. Also, there was much cruelty throughout the book--calculated rape, punishment, etc. I stopped reading this book several times, and only completed it out of sheer boredom on a rainy day. Unlike most other books of this genre, I was not left with warm, happy feelings after reading it. Disturbed and tormented would be a more acurate description. I do not recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a strong, sound love story. You'll be left wanting and unsatisfied.

The fact that this book even exists disgusts me. This book is a steroid that feeds to rape culture. It excuses rape, and it glorifies rapists as "interesting, manly men" who can "take charge". In an interview with the author, she literally said that after her rapist-character was reformed into a "nice guy", he was probably a "total bore".

I must not have gotten the memo that in order to be interesting you have to be a lowly piece of scum for a human being.

In the book, the lead male tells his victim that he will not rape her, but that he will make her consent. There is no such thing as "forcing consent." That is rape.

The rape scene in the beginning of this book literally emphasized the fact that the victim was barely a teenager, and began to excuse the rapist's actions and intentions immediately after the rape happened.

Anyone who takes pleasure in reading this book is a sick human being.

It does not matter if he is supposed to be unlikeable, it does not matter if he "changes". There is no redemption after that. Rape is a serious issue in the real world and it is belittled all the time in society. Catherine Coulter has contributed a horrendous piece of work that is a shame to men just as much as it is to women. It is a shame to human kind.

Who ever is saying this book sucks, is stupid! This book is so cool there are only 2 parts that I didn't like the rape part.Dont get it wrong eh the hero does not rape the heroine.Which at least wasn't cruel and the spanking part. The hero does spank the heroine but Mrs. Coulter even made that funny. But anyways I loved this book.I would recommended to anyone.

I loved this book. I do not care what other reviews have said about this book. Chandra was a woman ahead of her time, and she was a very capable. I am sick of reading about fragile, weak women with a core of steel. Chandra was strong in every way, both physically and emotionally.

After the back of this book it sounded interesting. But it started out bad and went down hill from there. After the first couple of pages there was a rape. If that was not bad enough Chandra, the heroine is annoying to the point you wish the hero would just divorce her and marry some one else. Overall the book was a waste of my money.
this was my first Catherine Coulter book 12 years ago. Since then, I have read it several more times, along with the rest of the song series. Its 13th century England. Catherine Coulter writes an amazing medieval romance novel!
