Silence (沈黙, Chinmoku) is a 1966 novel of theological fiction by Japanese author Shūsaku Endō, published in English by Peter Owen Publishers. It is the story of a Jesuit missionary sent to 17th century Japan, who endures persecution in the time of Kakure Kirishitan ("Hidden Christians") that followed the defeat of the Shimabara Rebellion. The recipient of the 1966 Tanizaki Prize, it has been called "Endo's supreme achievement" and "one of the twentieth century's finest novels"

Lyn Benedict delivers one hell of a powerful story, expertly weaving Greek, Egyptian, and Christian lore and traditions together before tossing them into a modern setting.

Lyn Benedict delivers one hell of a powerful story, expertly weaving Greek, Egyptian, and Christian lore and traditions together before tossing them into a modern setting. With fantastic characters, engrossing magic, and creative mayhem, Benedict gives us a new twist on the supernatural noir front. This compelling new book consists of Keating’s responses to questions posed by Lucette Verboven, a Flemish film producer . World Without End showcases Keating’s wisdom and his lifelong passion for connecting with God in silence.

This compelling new book consists of Keating’s responses to questions posed by Lucette Verboven, a Flemish film producer and writer. As a boy, Keating would sneak out of his family’s apartment in New York City to attend Mass. While a student at Yale and Fordham University, he was drawn to the wisdom of the Christian mystics, eventually leading him to the Trappists. Verboven digs deep by posing questions about Keating’s beliefs. Asked if he ever experienced doubt, Keating says, Sure, but you can get over that. You have to decide to trust God.

A help for those seeking to follow our Lord to obtain the silence of the soul necessary to hear and understand the will of God. The author, a German Benedictine, presents the full panorama of a Christian Life. The subjects include our Lords call to everyone to a life of perfection, a constant spiritual struggle through the practice of human and supernatural virtues, and the frequent reception of the sacraments.

Great service - great product. I can't recommend this book enough. It's heavy and it will change how you view your spiritual journey. You will need to read it more than once, and slow. It is worth it.
Scepter Publishers, the publishers of books by St. Josemaria Escriva and Opus Dei, publish so many great books. This book isn't just about silence but surveys the entire Christian life. Though first published in 1951, the German Benedictine Benedict Baur's words are as timely as ever. Consider the following from pages 135 and 136:

"The world, so far from God, doesn't pray. It seeks relief in broken cisterns (Jer 2:13), in the stepping-up of human achievement, in learning, in ever more daring enterprises, in the destruction of the past, in technical progress, in boundless effort for wealth and well-being, yes, and in turning away from God and Christ, in combat against the Church of Christ, in encouraging unbelief, in making gods of men and false gods of work, success, money, the nation, the State. ... What can save the world? Not learning, not technical knowledge, not politics, not human power. The only thing that can save us is the mercy of God and His grace, and this can be attained only through prayer. The healing of the world lies in prayer. The need of the world today cries out for praying souls. Souls willing to link up with the Church, with Christ, in a united, Heaven-rending Kyrie eleison, in an incessant 'Hallowed be Thy name.'
'Pray without ceasing.' 'Ask and ye shall receive.' ... 'All saints became blessed and holy because they prayed. All who have been lost were lost because they did not pray. Had they prayed persistently they would have been saved' (St. Alphonsus Liguori). 'No one is more powerful than the man who prays' (St. Chrysostom). The strength of the Church lies in the prayers of Christians."
