Metropolitan Philip book.

Metropolitan Philip book. See a Problem? We’d love your help. Details (if other): Cancel. Thanks for telling us about the problem. This was a great introduction to the man, his life and work. I have a new love and respect for our father, Metropolitan Philip; and am looking forward to Part 2, if it is ever written, which will needs be another couple hundred pages or so, considering the man is still alive; and will also needs be written by another author, since Gillquist is now past (memory eternal!).

Metropolitan Philip (born Abdullah Saliba; June 10, 1931 – March 19, 2014) was the Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of All North America, which is the leadership position for the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. He held the position from 1966 until his death in March 2014. His tenure as an Orthodox bishop was the longest serving in American history.

Metropolitan Philip Saliba, who in nearly 50 years as leader of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in North America fostered a growth in membership and parishes while encouraging unity among Orthodox churches, died in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. of heart failure. He was 82. He was in Florida for the winter and was receiving medical care there.

Peter Gillquist in November 2008 in the home of His Eminence. In this historic interview on Ancient Faith Radio, Metropolitan Philip talks candidly about such things as Orthodox unity, music, our witness to the world, his most memorable accomplishments as well as his biggest disappointments. This two part interview was conducted by Fr. Peter Gillquist, Chairman of the Department of Missions and Evangelism in the Antiochian Archdiocese. It was Fr. Peter and a large contingent of Evangelicals who were received into the Orthodox Church by Metropolitan Philip over 20 years ago.

Gilquist writes with a great deal of love and respect for Met. Philip, who was the hierarch who opened his denomination to the Evangelical Orthodox Church formed by the former members of Campus Crusade for Christ, an Evangelical para-church organization.
Metropolitan Philip is perhaps the most progressive of the Primates of the various Orthodox Churches in America. This easily read biography does not really go into depth about the man, but simply serves as an introduction to his life.
