TRUE LOVE: This book tops the mountain of books I have read lately on the topic of "Love". No other book that I have read penetrates the romantic layers and commercial definitions that pepper us with ordinary findings or provides "just enough" advice, yet falls short of direction for developing enduring and enriching love. This is a journey and lesson(s)of abiding love beyond oneself. I have one caveat for readers who try the techniques covered in True Love: Participants need a level of emotional integrity where both parties play fair, are trustworthy and respectful

In the concluding section of the book, Thich Nhat Hanh explains how we can bring love to bear on our own pain, fear, and negativity.

Toward that end, he offers the technique of conscious breathing as a way of synchronizing the mind and the body and establishing the conditions for love. He goes on to offer a mantra practice for cultivating real love that consists of expressing four key statements or intentions in our relationships. In the concluding section of the book, Thich Nhat Hanh explains how we can bring love to bear on our own pain, fear, and negativity

Overview: True Love: A Practice for Awakening the Heart Summary.

In this little treasure, Thich Nhat Hanh offers a Buddhist view of love along with techniques for manifesting it in our daily lives. In his characteristically direct, simple, and compassionate style, he explores the four key aspects of love as described in the Buddhist tradition: lovingkindness, compassion, joy, and freedom. In order to love in a real way, Thich Nhat Hanh explains, we need to learn how to be fully present in our lives. In True Love he offers readers the technique of conscious breathing as a method for synchronizing the mind and body to establish the conditions of love. He goes on to offer a mantra practice for generating love that consists of expressing four key statements or intentions in our relationships. These include: "Dear one, I am really there for you"; "Dear one, I know that you are there, and I am really happy about it"; "Dear one, I know that you are suffering, and that is why I am here for you"; and "Dear one, I am suffering, please help me." In the concluding section of the book, Thich Nhat Hanh explains how love can help us to heal our own pain, fear, and negativity. He explains that we must not regard negative emotions as bad and repress them. We must recognize them as part of us and allow them into our consciousness, where they can be cared for by the "loving mother of mindfulness."

BACKGROUND: I have been married 33 years and I have a great marriage that has hit a rough spot. We're friends, we've owned a business together, we respect each other and love each other. We've entered a new chapter called Retirement and I am struggling. Of course, there is more to the story such as my husband's painful layoff that left him flattened and emotionally shutdown. And my stress about the ability to let go and be less fearful in this unknown chapter without clinging or pressurizing my husband to fill the space. That said, I am grateful that I found this book at this phase of my life.

I have one caveat for readers who try the techniques covered in True Love: Participants need a level of emotional integrity where both parties play fair, are trustworthy and respectful. For example: Practicing giving freedom to a spouse who has a history of infidelity might be painful. Obviously, I am NO expert, but these exercises will let you know how to proceed. Deepening relationships has elements such as loving someone more than yourself, emotionally supporting them without requirements, promoting freedom, etc. The message is simple, but not easy and conveyed in a loving way so that one can translate them into their world. Thich Nhat Hanh embodies love, his lessons have humbled me and given me peace, but homework!

This book seems to expand on one of the most important chapters written in Tich Naht Hahn's book 'The Art of Communicating.' True Love is defined in this little book and then the Teacher provides step by step instructions on how to turn yourself and your life into a Masterpiece and helps you understand how important you are. He encourages you to connect with yourself so you can share your compassion and love with the world.

This was purchased for my yoga course. I was not expecting much, just chose it for the length. What I found was another story: things that are taken for granted were explained. I came out with a new perspective on relationships and on life in general. Highly recommend for cancer patients/survivors.

I purchased the 2 disc audiobook and am completely entranced. I am putting actions and principles into practice right away. It is the most truthful, simple, to the heart teaching on interpersonal love to which I have ever been exposed. I am very grateful - for the teachings, and more so for all the love around me that I receive and can give even better now. It shows the way for fixing messed up relationships where there is true mutual love - taking that big leap of letting the other know that you are suffering and asking him to help. It amazes me that a monk knows so much about ordinary people and can help us. I revere Thich Nhat Hanh and the faith and practice which inspire him.

I have my Spiritual Director to thank for introducing me to Buddhist Monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. He is revitalizing the way I view my life, my exchanges and the way I conduct myself in general. TRUE LOVE: A PRACTICE FOR AWAKENING THE HEART is a wonderful example of Hanh's sensitive treatment of the human experience and how each relationship can (and should) be sacred. For me, this includes the day-to-day exchanges, as well more intimate (maybe even romantic) ones. I am grateful for this beautiful piece - a quick read, indeed, at only 104 pages. It goes very fast, trust me on this! He starts out by giving insight into the four aspects of love in Buddhist practice (maitri, karuna, mudita and upeksha). I do not want to "give away the plot," and the purpose of this review is to get you to buy this for yourself (at such a reasonable price, at that!), so I will only say that he gives the reader insight on a more holistic approach to harmony and good living with others.

All of humankind deserves to give and receive love. This is something I know to be true. Many of us have been damaged, along the footpath of life, and have walled ourselves off from its healing powers. These powers run deep and the capacity that we have for helping people is immense, once we tap into the source. Please read this book and learn how to really find your inner source of loving energy that can be shared with everyone you encounter in your lifetime. You will not be the same, once you read this, and your life will change for the better.

Mindfulness and love . Mindfulness is way of living life love .that's all what the book is talking about. Nice concepts and practice but there are lots of redundant information.
