The Kindness of Strangers. has been added to your Basket. Loved this book, almost reads as a fictional story. Written well, just as you would expect from Kate Adie, she never ceases to astonish throughout the book.

The Kindness of Strangers.

The Kindness of Strangers: The Autobiography by Kate Adie Headline £20, pp374. Adie's autobiography is tireless and entertaining but it is one of the most defensive books I have ever read. Kate Adie, the BBC's veteran war correspondent, could hardly be less like Tennessee Williams's wilting heroine Blanche du Bois in A Streetcar Named Desire, whose catchphrase was: 'I have always depended on the kindness of strangers. But Adie has chosen Blanche's words for her title and, in a way, it is more fitting than it would at first appear to be. For Adie is more comfortable with strangers than with herself. She can't - or won't - cover the home front at all.

The Kindness of Strangers may refer to: "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers", a line from Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire (1947). The Kindness of Strangers" (Heroes), an episode of the television show Heroes. The Kindness of Strangers", an episode of BBC's Merlin. The Kindness of Strangers a 2006 UK television film drama. The Kindness of Strangers (film), a 2019 drama film. The Kindness of Strangers (album), an album by Spock's Beard.

The Kindness of Strangers book. A riveting book from British journalist, Kate Adie. You don't need to leave your armchair to be taken on a Hercules into battle, or hang out of a helicopter as an SAS soldier uses your shoulder to steady is machine gun. All very gripping, informative, absorbing but more than that, it is hilarious!

Kate Adie, we are reminded on this book's cover, is the chief news correspondent of the BBC. Whatever that means, it clearly doesn't involve much reporting on screen. She did, of course, for many years.

Kate Adie, we are reminded on this book's cover, is the chief news correspondent of the BBC. From the Gulf War to Kosovo, a conflict had not truly started for British viewers until Kate was there with her flak-jacket and unemotional analysis. Now, she and her style of reporting are not so much in favour. Adie has said that she is "an old trout" at a time when television wants young, photogenic talent, whose pain we can feel. Adie has a distaste for such reporting

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS encompasses Adie's reporting from, inter alia, Northern Ireland, the Middle East . Kate Adie was born in Sunderland and educated at Newcastle University. She joined the BBC in 1969 and has been their Chief News Correspondent since 1989

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS encompasses Adie's reporting from, inter alia, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Tiananmen Square and, of course, the Gulf War of 1991. It offers a compelling combination of vivid frontline reporting and evocative writing and reveals the extraordinarily demanding life of the woman who is always at the heart of the action. She joined the BBC in 1969 and has been their Chief News Correspondent since 1989. She was awarded the OBE in 1993.

The phrase was also taken up by British war correspondent Kate Adie as the title of her memoirs.

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS encompasses Adie's reporting from, inter alia, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Tiananmen Square and, of course, the Gulf War of 1991.

Kate Adie's story is an unusual one. Raised in post-war Sunderland, where life was 'a sunny experience, full of meat-paste sandwiches and Sunday school', she has reported memorably and courageously from many of the world's trouble spots since she joined the BBC in 1969. THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS encompasses Adie's reporting from, inter alia, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Tiananmen Square and, of course, the Gulf War of 1991.

Originally published : 2002. Kate Adie has courageously reported from all over the world since she joined the BBC in 1969. These memoirs encompass her reporting from, inter alia, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Tiananmen Square and, of course, the Gulf War of 1991. From the siege at the Iranian embassy which shot her to public acclaim, to an alarming encounter with a drunken Libyan army commander who shot her at point-blank range, from the chaos and mayhem of desert warfare to Gracie Field's bizarre funeral, Kate has cooly kept us in touch through her reasoned and level reporting. Raised in post-war Sunderland, where life was . Please provide me with your latest book news, views and details of Waterstones’ special offers.
