Hi, i usually shy away from writing reviews unless the products are excellent or atrocious. This one is in the former category.I bought 2 books for catching up on Us accent worth 100 ,spent another 100 on diagnostic skills..One thing i can say is some teachers will tell you to speak slowly others to quicken your speed.Making the speed of speech fast works better for me and my listeners So i like this book better which goes by the same.
If you look at it,field of improving accent is vast and remembering all the voiced, unvoiced consonants blah blah is really hard unless you have a photographic memory which i don't.So, this one teaches the exact same thing with real life sentences and have you repeat them with appropriate quick pause in audio cd...Having a written book of the same audio CD makes such a difference. This is money well spent.I have recently started going through this and i hope to continue learning with this. Most likely will leave another review once i am done with the material. So far its five stars from my side.

What's the difference between this grammar book and all the other classroom grammar books out there that we all endured in the past?? Well, classroom grammar books help me ace in grammar written tests, but I still make simple elementary level grammatical mistakes like gender confusion and singular/ plural confusion. This gives out a very wrong impression of your English level to anyone. Well, this book solves the problem. It focuses on teaching you to use the correct grammar while speaking without memorizing all the rules. Audio lessons are great too.

The most important of all, grammar is boring and dry, this book is not.

Well, Ive been living in the united states for quite a while without any practice with my English. This is due to the embarrassing accent that I have. I would sometimes drive someone on the phone crazy because they couldnt understand the words that I was saying. So I decided to put my foot forward and take my accent further.

Instead of practicing in the real world, I decided to take things slow and start with a book. I was suprise when this package came with a cd, mirror, and markers cause I was expecting something like a small ordinary book. An hour after listening the cd tracks and reading the book, english is somewhat becoming more acceptable and easy for me. And now, though not yet fully good with my english, most of my co-workers understand my sentences the first time that I say them.

I would recommend this to those who can fully understand english but is having a hard time pronouncing words and sentences. This is my first book for accent training and I have a feeling that it'll be my last because I found everything that I will ever need.

I bought this book for myself, but I found that this book is for beginers or people with intermediate level of english. Its main focus is on grammar, but at the same time you can learn pronunciation by repeating the audio and reading the text, plus you will find tricks on how to pronounce those words easily and it comes with 2 cd's.
To make my review shorter I want to say that I gave this book away to my boss and he's so happy about it, I wished I could've taken a picture at that moment, he was like a kid with a new toy. He told me eventually that this book has been a great help towards working on his english.

It's a good book, but I would advice Ann Cook to add more practice and decrease on the lectures. Do it like "Mastering American Accent".

I usually listen to tracks on my iPod while driving to and from work. Unfortunately I would spend the entire driving only listening to the lectures.

I am still reading it. I am in lesson 2 now. I like the method, I do not get bored and this is very important to me!.I feel like reading and practicing most of the time. I think it is improving my pronuntiation. There is also cultural information related to the american accent that is pretty interesting (i did not know it) and helps you to understand many things. The teacher pronunces excellet and lets you time enough to repeat. You have to read the books while you listen to the CD, at least the first time. The first CD it not great to listen into the car. There are many written exercises and others to repeat aloud. The exercises are easy and fun.I definitely think it was a good investment buying this course. If you really want to improve just keep practicing, the course its good enough to learn by yourself. This is a good book for persons who already speak/read advanced english.

This software is the first I bought and studied to improve my pronunciation, but for me personally, this product more focuses on Intonation rather than teaching how to say correctly and find the differences between words. So, the next step I'd do is to bought another one that's Improve Your American English Accent by Charlsie Childs. I adore so much Childs' teaching in finding the differences between words when you say it one by one, and after I deeply understand how to say words correctly, simply I just studied the intonation by using the best product of Ann Cook- American Accent Training. My point is they both had done such a wonderful job for all of us. Thank you so much for Ann Cook and Charlsie Childs- you are the real teacher for me. For everyone who really want to improve your English pronunciation buy these products. These are the real beneficial investment for all of you.
I tried to improve my accent one years ago and used this book as a guide. It was really difficult for me that time because the author's speed is really fast, I can hardly follow the exercise so I just listened through it and learned those rules. Then I used some other materials to improve each phoneme and now I can catch up with this book. I'd say it is the best accent training book I've ever used.
The voice is beautiful and the rules are described very clear. Starting from intonation is really important and this book give very thorough description and exercises for it. The explanation of /l/ helps me to understand and pronounce it better.
The only thing I'd like to have is some more explaining about other phoneme, such as /zh/, it is still hard for me to pronounce it.
