My local community college chose this as the text for its French 101 course - bad choice! My biggest complaint beyond the travel-French aspect is that the material in the chapters is presented disjointedly. If you are a self-learner, pass this by, as it is completely inadequate. Actually, there is a huge amount of French language learning resources on the Internet whether you are a self-leaner or college student. And since French is certainly one of the main languages on the planet, there are many really good textbooks around.

I purchased this book as it was a requirement for LA 260 Beginning French. I am really displeased with the book, when you first open it up it immediate starts off in French with little to no translations of the words or phrases used. The pages are extremely disorganized as well with blocks of text everywhere and not cleanly organized for ease of reading. The other thing that bothers me is that in some of the exercise examples, they don't explain the "model" and how they came to that structure of the sentence so you have no idea why you are phrasing the words in that way.

Over all, this is a poor book that is also pretty outdated (I mean, they show pictures of Walkmans, Discmans, and old Desktop computers!). I'm going to France this summer and I'm afraid I'll be laughed at for being out of date in my communication.

Also the seller I got this from was late with the shipment and I had missed the first 3 weeks of my class thanks to them.

Good book for high school or undergrad college level. Goes relatiely quickly.

This book was informative and easy to understand. However, I expected the answers to some questions to be in the book but they weren't. Separate exercise book is needed.

A little more beat up than expected but useful nonetheless.

I purchased this book as a refresher for French and, while it's not an awful book, it's definitely missing some key language basics as well as French cultural cues. Still, there's a lot of good info in the book and study guide.
