Illustrated by Greg Hildebrandt. The reason I found this book interesting is because for all the Robin Hood based stories I've seen, I don't think I've actually read the original base stories such as these. Also, it was cool to read something and think, "Hey! I saw something like that in Hood by Lawhead.

Robin Hood is a heroic outlaw in English folklore. A highly skilled archer and swordsman, he is known for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor", assisted by a group of fellow outlaws known as his "Merry Men". Traditionally Robin Hood and his men are depicted wearing Lincoln green clothes. The origin of the legend is claimed by some to have stemmed from actual outlaws, or from ballads or tales of outlaws.

The Bishop glanced nervously around, as if half expecting to see Robin Hood's men standing near; then turned to find the Queen looking at him with much amusement lurking in her eyes. Odds bodikins! The story of my misadventure must have preceded me!" he thought, ruefully.

Like many people, I was familiar with the story of Robin Hood, so there weren't exactly any surprises in reading this book. There have been many versions of the story told both in movies, plays and even books. My son was asking questions about the original story, so I tried to find a good classic book for him. After reading other reviews, I decided to try this version. It is written in Old English, so there are phrases and words that have different meanings and can make some sections of the book more challenging to read and understand. I've read Old English stories before, so I was familiar with most of the terms and style of writing, but I can see where it might be a difficult read for people who are less familiar with the terms.

Even though I knew the story, I found myself caught up in the characters and plot. This version does a great job of introducing Robin Hood's men and giving more depth to the characters than a movie. I enjoyed this classic version and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an older and more traditional story line for Robin Hood.

This story is beautifully written. It captivates the reader from the very beginning, with the humble beginnings of Robin's childhood and his misfortunes that led him to be an outlaw. His many adventures and his reconnection with his childhood friend, who turns into a beautiful woman, are very heartwarming.

As the Kings change, the fate of the outlaws changes with them. At the end, it forces them to leave their forest and move to a new one, where his body dies, but not his spirit.

I've tried reading other versions of Robin Hood, but none of them captivated me as much as this one.

Beautiful artwork-- the story seems to be a compilation of several versions, but it is also vague enough that it covers our hero's life from birth to death.
The book is much larger than I anticipated, but after seeing the artwork (from the Hildebrandt Brothers, no less!) I was actually relieved because it captures so much detail. It came with a dust-jacket, but we did away with that because we don't care for them (but it's nice to know it comes with one).

This is a fairly similar to Howard Pyle's "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood", but not exactly the same. I still enjoyed reading it , and I really like the slim form factor and beautiful glossy green cover and design. Maybe a silly reason to like a book that honestly merits no credit for it's originality, but there it is. I like to slip this in my bag when I go camping, and read about Robin and his friends adventures when I get some time, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I think it was a great book-a little easier to understand in spots than the very old English of the Howard Pyle version, though that is good too. However, what happened to the end? I got the the last page and it says, "And on the stone were graven these words:" and that is the end of the book! Maybe mine its the only one like that since I don't see anyone else saying something similar...

You can't go wrong with the classics, and I love being able to take them with me in digital format.

A fun version of the Robin Hood legend
I read this book for school and it was better than I initially thought it would be. It was fun and adventurous. The ending was the best part of the book to me... It was abruptly sad and unexpected. This book was a good read.
