Richard Poe correctly points out that the Second Amendment is itself a civil right, a right desperately needed . This book is a great simple read that tells you the real facts about gun control. It exposes the anti guns crowds myths.

Richard Poe correctly points out that the Second Amendment is itself a civil right, a right desperately needed by society's most vulnerable citizens. For those concerned about all of our civil liberties, The Seven Myths of Gun Control is an invaluable resource. Niger Innis, national spokesman, Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) "This delightful, lively book exposes the myths of the firearms prohibitionists. Just like Lott'S "more guns, less crime" it shows you the real facts about guns, not the distorted liberal media's coverage on this matter.

Guns increase the incidence of violent crime. Five of the myths are of a practical nature, while two deal with the legal and social context of the Second Amendment

Guns increase the incidence of violent crime. Using a gun to deter crime is more dangerous to the intended victim than the perpetrator. Guns pose a special threat to children. Such statements, reinforced in the media, are accepted at face value by many Americans. Five of the myths are of a practical nature, while two deal with the legal and social context of the Second Amendment. His aim is to show that gun ownership is in fact more beneficial than portrayed by proponents of gun control.

The seven myths that Poe exposes are (1) guns increase violent crime, (2) pulling a gun on a criminal endangers you more than the criminal, (3) guns pose a special threat to children, (4) the Second Amendment applies only t. .

The seven myths that Poe exposes are (1) guns increase violent crime, (2) pulling a gun on a criminal endangers you more than the criminal, (3) guns pose a special threat to children, (4) the Second Amendment applies only to militiamen, (5) the Second Amendment is an obsolete relic of the frontier era, (6) we should treat guns the same .

While the book addresses second amendment issues, the biggest emphasis is on how gun control increases crime. Poe's work is so important because it gives the other, and more importantly the correct, side of the crime and gun control debate

While the book addresses second amendment issues, the biggest emphasis is on how gun control increases crime. It is on this last point that the book relies very, very heavily on John Lott's More Guns, Less Crime and his op-ed pieces. Even though I had read Lott's book, I hadn't read some of his op-ed pieces, so I still got something out of even this discussion. I also think that Poe does a good job of simplifying some of Lott's discussions. Poe's work is so important because it gives the other, and more importantly the correct, side of the crime and gun control debate. The media has lost all pretense of objectivity and just presenting the facts.

Today, the right to own a gun is under assault like never before. Every time a firearm is used in a high-profile crime, calls for stricter gun regulation—even outright prohibition—are pounded into us by a press that has taken sides. In fact, when it comes to guns, journalists have clearly made up their minds. According to a recent study, television news stories calling for stricter gun laws outnumbered newscasts opposing such laws by a ratio of ten to one. In other words, we are hearing only one side of the story. This is the other side. "A blockbuster book every freedom-loving American should read." — Christopher Ruddy, editor, NewsMax.com In The Seven Myths of Gun Control, award-winning journalist and bestselling author Richard Poe cuts through the blizzard of anti-gun propaganda and uncovers the truth about guns, crime, and freedom. He details the seven most common arguments used by gun prohibitionists, debunking each one with a wealth of statistical and legal data gleaned from top experts in the field of guns and gun rights. You will discover that, contrary to myth, the availability of guns leads to less crime, not more; that guns do not pose a special threat to our children; and that the Second Amendment is as vital to the lives and liberty of modern Americans as it was in frontier times. You will also learn how the current drive to further regulate and even outlaw firearms is a point-blank assault not only on truth but on freedom as well. Provocative, accessible, and persuasive, The Seven Myths of Gun Control is a thoughtful and invaluable contribution to the national debate about guns.

The one right that lets the others have their meaning! Not everyone has the right to own a gun and that is as it should be. Only why spend so much money to defy those who are law abiding from owning a gun? You have to ask yourself who benefits? History will fill in that blank! That money could be better used to free us from fossil fuels and find the cures to so many diseases. A real short cut to clean up our future! Its so stupid and crazy!

This is a very well written and informative book. More people on both sides of the second amendment issue should take the time to read this book. It truly points the failings of the people of this country not to speak out when the government just continues to trample on their constitutional rights. It shows how the government will backdoor the bill of rights and the constitution so that we the people can be good little sheep and do as we are told. Its more than just the 2nd amendment thats being worked and this book shows a lot about what is truly happening to our rights.

I bought this book after reading an abridged version in a magazine. My hope was that it would be something I could give to my liberal friends to help dissipate some of their holophobia (fear of guns--according to Jeff Cooper.) The first part was pretty good, and used facts to butress its arguments. But the epilogue, mostly a diatribe against feminism, seemed totally out of place. It sure would turn off any liberals or middle of the roaders I was trying to reach. I would suggest that the paperback version dispense with the epilogue altogether and stick to the gun myths. We have got to learn better how to reach the "middle" if we are going to win this argument.

This is a book that must be absorbed with an open mind. For most conservatives and gun-nuts, it simply provides a very enjoyable read. For hardcore leftists, well, they simply wouldn't pick it up to begin with. But it is a fantastic book for those who are still "on the fence" who need a book with a logical, common-sense approach to the gun control debate. Too many times, liberal gun-control advocates(such as Rosie), get up and scream their beliefs in the face of anybody who will listen. They allow emotion to cloud their judgment.

This book relentlessly chews into the seven primary myths of gun control, and does it very effectively. By the end of the book, there is no doubt in your mind that the only solution to the gun control debate is to end all compromise with liberals and prevent any more gun control laws from being passed. We must return to our roots, as a nation of riflemen, if we are to reduce crime and violence and restore a true sense of patriotism among our children.

It's worth considering that EVERY single scholar who has seriously researched the statistics of gun laws and crime rates, just as John Lott did with his book, "More Guns, Less Crime", has turned over to the conservative side. Nobody who really trys to understand the truth goes back to the liberal point of view. People who are for gun control usually have allowed their own feelings to decide for them. This book will clear away all doubt.

For anyone who has an interest in this critical nationwide issue, or knows somebody who does, this book needs to be in your hands as soon as possible.

This is an excellent primer for those who are new to the pro-gun owner movement, for fence riders, or for anti-gun owners who are wondering what all the fuss is about. Your unlikely to find anything new in the main body of this book if you're already familiar with the issue, though. The book seems geared toward the newcomer, and it is written with solid examples and easily followed ideas. Bbecause of that, it leaves out most of the technical arguements that help support some of its arguments. Reading this in addition to John Lott's "More Guns, Less Crime" will give you a good foundation in both the technical and the idealistic aspects.
That said, even if you've read every book that deals with the 2nd amendment to date, you should still read this book for the epilogue. Frankly, I think its one of the best written pieces on a subject not often discussed in today's American culture.
I thank the author for the book, but also for the suggested reading he mentions.

This book is a must read by all who have a conceal carry permit. You need to know the legalities of what has happened in the past and what you may be facing in the future for those who argue that guns should be outlawed. You would be surprised by reading this book who is trying to take your right to own and carry a gun.
The author of this book is not a gun nut. He is a journalist that took notice of the media's "tendency" to ignore stories with a pro-gun message and their "tendency" to hype anti-gun stories. From there, he builds a solid case for gun ownership by private citizens from all walks of life.
