I got this book hoping it would provide a lucid and succinct introduction to an area which I am interested in but know little about as a discipline or theory - much as I had found in others in the series. Unfortunately this book doesn't seem to actually have been written as such an introductory piece, but seems rather to be a group of essays around a common theme, that were then vaguely stringed together.

Geopolitics: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions). Klaus Dodds starts of with a short history of geopolitcs. He depicts how the Nazis used the science to evaluate their ideas of a state as an organism and social Darwinism

Excellent introductory book on geopolitics with a very modern approach. It encopasses concepts that affect the world today in a manner that traditional geopolitics, which were restricted on a map only, could not cover.

A geopolitical analysis is a dynamic subject. A conclusion that makes sense today may change completely tomorrowa and become invalid. While many conclusions made perfect sense when I was reading the book, the value lies with the process of assessing the various factors that affect the formation of international and national policies.

The book is very well written and keeps the reader constantly interested and engaged. I personally felt that I could not put it down.

As an introduction to geopolitical thinking, this book does not intend to tranform the reader in a genious of strategy. But it does convey an analytical view on what drives the facts and political choices that we observe in the world today.

very concise history of geopolitics and some valuable updates from contemporary examples. However, one minus star for unsatisfactory explanation between classical and critical geopolitics

Apparently, "geopolitics" means the study of how America sucks.

Much ballyhooing against the evils of American hegemony, but not a peep about the human lives cut down by the sickle of communism in every downtrodden country it has swung through.

You'll also learn that " so much of American mainstream media is...politically conservative." Holy crap, Klaus. You're not just biased; you're woefully misinformed.
