Migraine Art: The Migraine Experience from Within by Klaus Podoll and Derek Robinson. I have suffered from migraines most of my life. This book depicts not only the pain, but what the entire body goes through when a migraine hits. The Migraine is such a painful, bizarre experience that Artists who suffer from it want to interpret it & expiate it. For people with migraines who don't have the words to describe them. Can't believe people have put this into art, so comforting! Migraine Art: The Migraine Experience from Within.

Migraine Art includes more than 300 powerful illustrations and paintings created by migraine sufferers from around the world. It provides a thoroughly unique window into the subjective world of the migraine sufferer. The idea of collecting migraine art started with a number of public competitions in the 1980s, which encouraged artists, both amateur and professional, to illustrate the pain, the visual disturbances, and the effect migraines had on their lives. The book includes hundreds of these submissions as well as detailed descriptions of different types of migraine visual phenomena. Covering such topics as migraine signs, triggers, and treatments, as well as types of visual hallucinations and somatic sensations and experiences, the book offers a comprehensive view of the migraine experience. Each category of visual disturbance is accompanied by related artwork. A description of migraine visual experiences of famous historical figures, such as Blaise Pascal and Lewis Carroll, provide historical background on the topic. The book also includes a history of four Migraine Art competitions and information about the Migraine Art collection.

If you are new to migraines and or have a loved on that is - some of the info on auras will surprise you. Finally you will say "Oh, so that's what that was". I think you'll be amazed how many different symptoms visual and more you can have. Great photos, but way too technical and wordy towards the end.

This is a professional level reference text, and is very well done.
An absolute must-have item for art therapists, neurologists, medical
libraries, art curators, and those who suffer migraine.

Fascinating book - never thought anyone could take pain and turn it into art.

A book with a thorough description and analysis of the signs and symptoms represented by migraine sufferers in the almost 600 drawings and paintings of the Migraine Art collection, with coloured illustrations of over 300 of these artworks. Beyond its interest from the art point of view, the book offers the most detailed representation of the variety of symptoms that can occur in migraine and especially migraine with aura. Informative reading for every migraine sufferer and doctor, it promotes a better understanding of the manifestations of the migraine in terms of subjective experience and thus helps sufferers to better cope with the condition.

This is a note for Amazon regarding the "Look Inside" feature for this book. Why bother? You only give pages of category tables, the bibliography and the index. NOTHING that would give an idea of what type of art material is in the book. If you want to actually sell this book, you're way off the track here.
