The novel Freedom Road is based on a true story and was made into a miniseries of the same name starring Muhammad Ali, who, in a rare acting role, played Gideon Jackson, an ex-slave in 1870s South Carolina who is elected to the . House and battles the Ku Klux Klan and other racist organizations to keep the land that.

The Bridge Builder's Story. Scott Waring and his wife are privileged young Americans, but on their honeymoon trip to Berlin in 1939 they experience deadly Gestapo tactics. Howard Fast was born January 11, 1914. The grandson of Jewish immigrants from Ukraine, he was raised in a poor family, and his politics have always been an important part of his life and work. A fighter for anti-Fascist causes and a member of the Communist party, he was jailed for three months during the 1950s for refusing to testify about his political activity.

The Bridge Builder's Story book. Howard Fast was one of the most prolific American writers of the twentieth century. Not what I expected when I started the novel, but I enjoyed this book and highly recommend Howard Fast’s other more historically oriented works of fiction. He was a bestselling author of more than eighty works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and screenplays. The son of immigrants, Fast grew up in New York City and published his first novel upon finishing high school in 1933.

The Bridge Builder's Story: A Novel. Venerable writer Fast (The Immigrants), master of the heart-tugging historical drama, delivers a moving tale of tragedy, inner healing and absolution. Married only 11 days, pacifist American engineering student Scott Waring and his wife, Martha, are arrested by the Gestapo in May 1939, while watching a Nazi rally in Berlin, where Scott is imprudently carrying his grandfather's pistol.

Since 1977, Fast (The Bridge Builder's Story, LJ 9/1/95) has been spinning tales about one immigrant family, the Lavettes of California, focusing on Barbara Lavette, whose marriages and adventures illustrate the astonishing changes in American life during the 20th century. In the sixth and final book in the series, Fast portrays Barbara's last love affair, with an ex-Jesuit whose spirituality and naivete provide rich material for a master storyteller. Their romance blossoms as the younger generation copes with a multitude of problems

The unsinkable Howard Fast, still profitably afloat after nearly five decades .

The unsinkable Howard Fast, still profitably afloat after nearly five decades in the chancy swells and shallows of popular fiction. Here, the story concerns MIT engineering student Scott Waring and his bride, Martha, both from well-to-do families. Scott's father is an aviation consultant to FDR, and his grandfatherwho presented him with a Webley automatic pistol on his 16th birthdayhad a heavy military past.

This book begins afresh by proposing that comparativists need to consider democracy to be a combination of rights and virtues, and that the difficulties of democratic transitions, consolidation, and maintenance are essentially problems relating to balancing rights and virtues in the regime.

Comparativists evaluate democratization by looking at regimes in the transition and consolidation phases of democracy without considering the essence of democracy. This book argues the need to consider democracy as a combination of rights and virtues, and that problems of democraticization are those of balance.

I read this book many years ago in French. I was captivating by the story, the way the author narrates the facts. It is a compelling story of man who is looking for redemption, looking for his ability to accept the death of a loved one in order to move forward in his life.

Good story line.
