Ok book on the presidents, from Washington to Obama. Geared more for kids than adults. Still a great primer for those that want to know about the American leaders.

Barber probes beneath the surface of campaigns to detect a steady rhythm of major political motifs. Barber makes the case that the party system, increasingly clumsy and inflexible, can no longer pick up the beat of politics

Barber probes beneath the surface of campaigns to detect a steady rhythm of major political motifs. The theory he advances in colorful narrative chapters is that three dominant themes-conflict, conscience, conciliation-recur in foreseeable twelve-year cycles. Barber makes the case that the party system, increasingly clumsy and inflexible, can no longer pick up the beat of politics. Instead it is through newspapers, magazines, and television that the main themes of a campaign are sounded, created, and destroyed.

" is a comically-dark novel that combines both fantasy and realism, and is one of Vonnegut's most masterful works. What kind of person do we want in the White House? How do Presidential candidates get nominated? Does advertising really "sell" a Presidential candidate? How can the process of nomination and election to the Presidency be made more representative and responsible? In "Choosing the President," noted authorities examine these questions and others, analyzing through recent events the changing rules of "eligibility," the influence of mass media campaigns, and the strategies of organizing a campaign. In addition, the contributors discuss the nominating procedure, the effects of recent reforms, and possible future reforms of candidacy, campaigns, and election processes.
