A very small proportion of the population consumes the majority of the world′s resources. The richest fifth consumes 86 % of all goods and services. An average American′s environmental impact is 30 to 50 times that of the average citizen of a developing country such as India.
Population and the Environment. This thought-provoking book opens up a subject that often goes unmentioned: human population growth as a pressing environmental issue. The diverse viewpoints expressed here arise out of social concern, scientific investigation, and religious belief, and they explore various aspects of population growth into the twenty-first century.
