Martin Heidegger's Being and Time is one of the most influential and revolutionary books in the history of philosophy

Martin Heidegger's Being and Time is one of the most influential and revolutionary books in the history of philosophy. It is also, notoriously, one of the most difficult to understand. This Companion will help beginners grasp what Being and Time achieves, and will illustrate what is at stake in Heidegger's existential and phenomenological take on the central issues in the Western tradition of philosophy. The essays in this volume also engage with scholarly debates over the core arguments of Heidegger's seminal works.

A Companion to Heidegger. Blackwell Companions to Philosophy. This outstanding student reference series offers a comprehensive and authoritative survey of philosophy as a whole.

Robert J. Dostal's "Cambridge Companion to Gadamer" is an excellent collection of essays that serve as guides . This book has caused me to "see" everything in a new philosophical light. Dostal's "Cambridge Companion to Gadamer" is an excellent collection of essays that serve as guides to reading Hans-Georg Gadamer's "magnum opus" "Truth and Method," which is a seminal work not just for the field of the philosophy of art, but also for epistemology, ontology, teleology, history, and the social sciences. When reading Gadamer, one instantly finds that he was influenced by Martin Heidegger, who he studied under, Hegel, and Aristotle.

The Cambridge Companion to Heidegger's "Being and Time" contains seventeen chapters by leading scholars of Heidegger. It is a useful reference work for beginning students, but also explores the central themes of Being and Time with a depth that will be of interest to scholars. The Companion begins with a section-by-section overview of Being and Time and a chapter reviewing the genesis of this seminal work. The final chapter situates Being and Time in the context of Heidegger's later work. The remaining chapters examine the core issues of Being and Time, including the question of being, the phenomenology of space, the nature of human being (our relation to others, the importance of moods, the nature of human understanding, language), Heidegger's views on idealism and realism and his position on skepticism and truth, Heidegger's account of authenticity (with a focus on his views on freedom, being toward death, and resoluteness), and the nature of temporality and human historicality.

Great book! I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into BT for the first time. I would also recommend this to anyone who has already read BT and is looking for an introduction to the secondary literature. The articles picked by Wrathall are very accessible and from very important people in the world of Heidegger scholarship. They help give a sense of what parts of BT are most controversial and the various interpretations offered in the field.

I you must read Heidegger, which I guess you must if you want to be "up" on the train of philosophical thought, then you must include this Cambridge Companion.
