I daresay that quite a few people wouldn't understand Walter's idea behind the words. Walter's the only person I know that could have me rooting for a bunch of losers for heros just with the power of words. Before reading it, he warned me that there were a lot of characters and I might find it a bit difficult to follow.

Walter Marvin Koenig (/ˈkeɪnɪɡ/; born September 14, 1936) is an American actor, writer, teacher, and director known for his roles as Pavel Chekov in Star Trek and Alfred Bester in Babylon 5. He wrote the script for the 2008 science fiction legal thri. He wrote the script for the 2008 science fiction legal thriller InAlienable. Koenig was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of businessman Isadore Koenig and his wife Sarah (née Strauss). They moved to Manhattan when Walter was a child, where he went to school.

Buck Alice and the Actor-Robot - Walter Koenig. I wrote this story at a time when events seemed to be conspiring against me and I found myself teetering on the brink. However, when circumstances changed for the better and the crisis did not, I began to understand that teetering was less a consequence of a single traumatic episode and more a constant in my nature. With the realization that I was permanently thus impaired, the inevitability of it all took hold and I began to relax

When an alien invasion annihilates most of humanity, it's up to a small pocket of survivors to restart civilization. There's just one problem: they're all losers. From an Irish pub to the Florida.

Buck Alice is so exciting! After reading the book I listened to the dramatization and was so happy with the story line. The sound effects help create the mood and are just great. CRT stretches the imagination which I really enjoy. Koenig states in his preface that he was "in a bad place" when he wrote the book and obviously, his jumbled life and scrambled emotions found their way into the book. The writing style is annoying. A constant string of tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic, cliche' media referenced dialogue that fills every chapter. There's a problem loading this menu right now.

I really really really wanted to like this. Im a big audio drama fan, big fan of Trek and Koernig, and a big fan of sci fi in general. Even sci-fi comedy. And I can pretty much enjoy most entertainment wether its tv, movies, audio productions. It takes something truly awful (or truly great) for me to even bother to write a review. This unfortunately falls into the truly awful category, and that is saying something. It is probably the only audio drama out of probably several thousand ive listened to that is totally unlistenable. Its one of the longest, yet is a totally random plotless gibberish. It is also one of the most exspenive from Colonial Radio Theater, by a long shot. You would think it would hav some sort of plot structure and not just random utterly boring conversations amongst a bunch of flat characters. There are things are a odd and strange but from an artstistic perspective that people praise as brilliant. Then there is things like this which is just odd and strang and not even remotely enjoyable. Meaningless. Dont wast your money on this. Worst audio drama you will ever listen to by a long shot. You might as well listen to a random selection of sentences spoken from a encyclopedia, that would make more sense.

Let me start this one by saying that Walter IS a friend of mine. Had I seen this novel in a bookstore, without having known him, I probably wouldn't have bothered with it. Just because, aside from a random 'Star Trek' novel here and there, I'm not really THAT much into sci-fi. But, because I DO know him, I know and understand his sense of humour (and, thoroughly enjoy it) as well as his story-telling (which, I also thoroughly enjoy)- I was super excited to read it.

I will say that this is NOT a book meant for everyone. I daresay that quite a few people wouldn't understand Walter's idea behind the words. Walter's the only person I know that could have me rooting for a bunch of losers for heros just with the power of words. Before reading it, he warned me that there were a lot of characters and I might find it a bit difficult to follow. However, having read and loved 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' for so many years- I hardly found it difficult to follow at all. But, I can certainly see how it could be difficult for someone just starting out in complex novels.

The story, also like THOND, does not specifically center around the title characters. If anything the main character in how I read it, is Joshua, a Jewish insurance salesman (if you read it, you'll understand that description easily). He's one of a very small group of humans that survive the annihilation of the human race by the aliens called Milliginians. They've come to Earth looking for a new home to colonize, due to overpopulation of their own homeworld. Joshua is a daydreamer and a sort of thoughtfully panicked loner, wandering the white dust-coated remnants of land, looking for....well, pretty much anything still alive and relatively human. I think he'd probably even settle for a dog, in his 'I think I'll just die.....no, I won't!' madness.

The are two other groups of humans featured in the story; The New Hope Settlement and an ex boxing champion with a tribe of friends. The New Hope Settlement is a larger group of humans with one 13 year old girl left as the only fertile female left on the planet (but, not the only female left). The two groups clash in a very primitive kind of battle before Joshua arrives with a rogue Milliginian with a plan to take back Earth. Unfortunately, none of the characters have very many heroic qualities and more than once, you'll think 'how is this person even still breathing?!'

What I loved about the story was the wording, first of all. Something about the way Koenig puts together his paragraphs completely intrigues me. Second, it's a completely bizarre and unusual take on a concept that plagued many books and movies and has been completely overdone in so many other ways. But, in all of those other ways- there's characters that step up to the plate, there's hardcore heroes, there's army soldiers, or robots. In this story- it poses the question: What if the only people that survived were completely by accident and the worst losers you could think of to survive? I'm a fan of strange thoughts and questions and this book is FULL of them. I like things that are different and not run of the mill and predictable.

While not for everyone- I recommend this book if you're sense of humour is in that sarcastic realm and if you're completely open-minded with what you read. If you're a hardcore sci-fi fan, you'll probably hate it. If you're a classic heroes versus villains fan, you'll probably hate it. It's just one of those fun books to read when you need a break from all of the seriousness around you on a daily basis, and you need a bit of psycho around, instead. That's why it's up in the top 5 of my favourites.

Colonial Radio Theater (CRT) is a dynamite creative group of people. Buck Alice is so exciting! After reading the book I listened to the dramatization and was so happy with the story line. The sound effects help create the mood and are just great. CRT stretches the imagination which I really enjoy. CRT produces many dramatizations which I listen to over and over. Buck Alice is definitely one of these stories. My family enjoys Buck Alice and all the CRT dramatizations. I purchase the library editions of CRT CDs because these editions look great on my bookshelf. The cover art is wonderful too. This story is fun, interesting, and different. CRT always picks great stories like "The Rivals" and "Moonfleet" to name a few. Thanks CRT for another great job! Better than 5 stars!

One of the most odd books i could not put down. Words can not give this tale justice. I felt like i was reading an acid trip.

I dragged myself through this book after the first chapter hoping it would go somewhere. It didn't. This is not clever, nor insightful. It's a primitive author's nonsense... perhaps a rant of a confused mind. This is getting published because the name is known. The publisher, Permuted Press, is a small time player that will print anybody's crap.

Don't waste the time on this book. The end has no payoff for your reading effort, so don't bother.

Leonard Nimoy provides Koenig an endorsement on the backflap, but look at the wording carefully and you'll realize he's just doing an old friend a favor with a clever and subtle statement.
I feel bad for Walter, but he still shouldn't be an author.
