MaryJanice Davidson is the New York Times bestselling author of several books, including the Undead novels featuring Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor. With her husband, Anthony Alongi, she also writes a series featuring a teen weredragon named Jennifer Scales. MaryJanice lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two children and is currently working on her next book. Anthony Alongi is a fantastically good-looking, talented writer who doesn’t deserve his fantastically good-looking wife, the gifted writer MaryJanice Davidson.

MaryJanice Davidson is the New York Times bestselling author of several books, including the Undead . I hoped this one would recapture some of that fun attitude of the ones before the last book, but so far it's more of the same. It feels like the series is ending.

Jennifer was staring, almost leaning, forward. She looked like an English setter on point, eyeing a flock of delicious grouse. She yanked it open and screamed into the cement throat of the stairway, Dr. Georges- Scales, come quick, come quick, get up here now! She ran back to help, knowing there wasn’t a damn thing she could do-she had zero medical skills. Aw, geez, Evangelina, you’re all- MoreLess Show More Show Less.

She is both a New York Times and USA Today bestseller. The series was limited to three books due to the end of the author's contract with Brava books. The Royal Treatment (Brava, 2002).

This was the 5th book in the Jennifer Scales series. MaryJanice Davidson is an American author and motivational speaker who writes mostly paranormal romance, but also young adult and non-fiction. It's been a long time since I read the last one so I was a little lost but it had a decent ending. She is the creator of the popular Undead series and is a New York Times and USA Today best-selling author. She writes a bi-weekly column for USA Today ("A Writer's Life") and lives in St. Paul with her family.

Jennifer Scales is a were-dragon with a fiery temper-but a warm heart. Jennifer's ex-boyfriend, werarachnid Skip Wilson, is out of control. His powers have grown as strong as his hunger for revenge, leaving her little choice but to confront him-hopefully without giving in to her own dark side...

Supplies are dangerously low for those residents of Winoka trapped inside a magical barrier. Ancient Furnace and dragon leader Jennifer Scales are becoming increasingly desperate, but they have no earthly idea how to break through the enchantment "prison". Jennifer also struggles to survive as Ember and the rogue dragons want her dead.

On the outside Jennifer's former friend were-arachnid Skip Wilson wants to kill everyone. At the same time the ancient wars between the beaststalkers, dragons and were-arachnids has left many dead or maimed and more deaths likely. Jennifer struggles to prevent further hostilities, but her plate is already overflowing and her flexibility restricted by the barrier and her enemies.

Fascinatingly, as Winoka remains isolated, the species trapped inside are unable to forge a mutually needed alliance, which leaves all in peril. Mostly told inside the magical containment area, Jennifer's troubles and danger mount while outside hell has broken loose too. Although the innocence that marked the earlier young adult urban fantasies in the saga is long gone as pragmatism has replaced it, fans of the series will enjoy Jennifer Scales and the Rise of the Poison Moon.

Love the Scales stories- bought the whole series

I truly love the way Jennifer Scales series started as I have with most of Mary Janice Davidson stories but it felt like been so long since the last book came out that I felt totally lost when starting this one. In this book the town is trapped inside a magical barrier; low on supplies, and attack by evil dragons. Many in the town is looking toward Jennifer's mother Dr. George Scales for leadership while others forced into a truce would still like all dragons dead. Mary Janice is goes as far as killing off a couple of my favorite characters that I have come to love throughout the whole Jennifer Scales series. While never minded if minor nobody characters died always dislike when beloved main characters bites the dust. If Jennifer didn't have enough problems in her life in this story with the dragons and beast stalkers fighting for power over the town, she also has to deal with her ex boyfriend Skip Wilson with his new powers and his new love Ally. Also Jennifer's spider like step sister returns from the dimension she vanished into in a previous book to cause her life more stress which may cause the ancient furnace to be fuel by revenge.

The series is still interesting to me, but it is definitely no longer fun. I am only halfway through the book at this time so can't say with any assurance on how it will end. I almost didn't read this book since the last one was so dark and unhappy. I hoped this one would recapture some of that fun attitude of the ones before the last book, but so far it's more of the same. It feels like the series is ending. There is much more of Jennifer's viewpoint in this book compared to the last, but the events occurring are so negative that her dry wit doesn't do much to alleviate the negative pall of the book. To sum it up, if you are a fan of Jennifer Scales then you- like me- will have no choice but to persevere through this continuing saga. If you haven't read the rest of the series do not read this book. That's true of all the others as well. This series really won't make sense if you don't start at the beginning. If you are a fan because of the light and fun feel this is no longer your series. It is, however, still interesting, though one wonders why the town residents follow Hank Blacktooth who is obviously a sociopath. Even though I haven't completed the book there has been enough negativity by this point that there is no way to completely come back from it. I will update in a couple of days when I complete if it requires an update. This book is sort of painful going and I'm reading slower with frequent breaks in between.

UPDATE: I finished it. Even though it tried to end kind of positively there had been a little too much negativity for that to work. I don't have that positive feeling that I had after reading all the books before these last two. My honest criticism is that it seemed to me that the plot is becoming much more important than the characters. There was a large amount of maneuvering to get the characters in exactly the right place and time to advance the plot.

NOTE: disregard the posting of whoever says this is a fun book. It is not.

I found this novel to be on the low side of OK. The characters had no emotions except for Skip and he only had anger. There were alot of big changes and everyone just seemed to glide right over them.
This is the second disappointment from MJD this year.

Great series but really meant for older teenagers. Still a good book. And no swearing. I am very impressed. I enjoyed the book even if I haven't been a teenager for a lot of years.
