Martin’s Paperbacks Titles by Rosamunde Pilcher. If she had been a stranger, new to the district and visiting it for the first time, she would have followed the main road which led right down into the town and out the other side, and consequently become hopelessly ensnared in crawling traffic and hordes of aimless sightseers who spilled off the narrow pavements, or stood about at strategic corners, sucking.

Way too short. I am accustomed to Rosamunde Pilcher giving more of an in-depth explanation of why her characters acted as they did, and this did little on that score.

This was a quick read for me, I love her
writing style. She's included the perfect things for me to truly
enjoy a book: kids and animals.
It all starts when Virginia takes a trip with her mother. She meets a man and falls in love. Before anything can become of this, her mother drags her away.
She eventually marries and has two children: Cara and Nicholas.
When her husband dies, she returns to Porthkerris where she'd
met her first love.
The rest is just too delicious, and in my opinion,
Rosamunde Pilcher is one of the best writers, and we're lucky to
have her:)

While I enjoyed the book, it seemed like it lacked something. The ending arrived with such a sudden & simple resolution, yet you the reader knew that it should be more complicated given all of Virginia's unresolved issues. I just wanted a more complex story.

I am a great fan of Rosamunde Pilcher, ever since I read the Shells Seekers. I did believe I have read all of her books.
While visiting Germany I saw many made for TV movies of her books - some I knew some not. There must be some
I obviously did not read or know about.
I am working my way through some of her books and I am enjoyed this book very much!

I love Ms Pilchers books. I found this one a little difficult to believe as I didn't think the main characters could be so in love from a chance meeting 10 years before. Nevertheless it was a "sweet" read with a happy ending. So I will give it a pass with a push....mainly because it was written be Rosamond Pilcher. If it had been written by another author I seriously doubt that I would be this kind.

I've read everything from way back and never been disappointed. Now these latest are not of late, but somebody knew her well and is updating lost outlines maybe. At any rate, they are reminiscent and I will relish every one.

Well, this was unexpected. An English friend of mine mentioned in passing that her favorite book was 'The Shell Seekers' by Rosamunde Pilcher. My interest was piqued, but I decided that I would read a shorter novel by Pilcher to get a taste of her brand of fiction before getting too invested. And thus I bought 'The Empty House'. I wasn't expecting to fall in love with English Women's Literature/Romantic fiction from the 1970s (my own tastes a conglomerate of Ernest Hemingway and Virginia Woolf), but, Oh!, how I was mistaken! If anything I've ever read can mirror my own style and themes in the slice-of-life feel-good fiction that I myself write, than Rosamunde Pilcher is it. 'The Empty House' felt life an English version of my own 'Clark's Turning Leaf', but with a female protagonist instead of a male. I'm not really possessed of the audacity to compare myself or my writing to Pilcher's, but I was just awestruck at reading such a kindred spirit and a kindred work. I felt very at home, and look forward greatly to exploring her other works.
Like most of Rosamunde Pilcher's novels, it is well written, and an interesting and enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone. As I remember, it has an ending in which the plot works out in a surprising but satisfying way. I wish she had written a bit more so I could have gone on enjoying the book. It would delight me, if she would write a sequel!
