Kathleen George's latest work pushes the edge-a spectacularly original crime novel. The Homicide Department is upside down-Richard Christie is in the hospital, Artie Dolan is headed away on vacation, John Potocki's life is falling apart, and Colleen Greer is so worried about her boss's health, she can hardly think. A young boy in Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood dies of a suspicious overdose.

Fallen is a crime novel by the American writer Kathleen George set in 1990s Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It tells the story of the murder of a Pittsburgh doctor, Dan Ross, his distraught wife, and how Commander Richard Christie tracks the killer. Contemporary Authors Online. The Gale Group, 2006. PEN (Permanent Entry Number): 0000142340.

It happened in the night, when no one was around to see it. A Pittsburgh doctor, who dedicated himself to helping others, was shot through the heart. Now days have passed, and Dan Ross’s wife, Elizabeth, has entered a twilight zone of grief, flooded with memories, voices, and regrets. And while a determined police investigator is feverishly following a trail of mystery back into her husband’s squeaky-clean past, a new neighbor suddenly moves in to the house next door and begins watching every move Elizabeth makes…watching her children come to visit…watching her acts of private grief and public dignity. This man, this stranger to the city, is fascinated by Elizabeth’s sorrow. And he knows exactly who killed her husband and why. But he isn’t in the business of telling truths. He simply wants to know her. He wants to take her in his arms. He wants to know she has fallen just for him.

And I read a lot of suspense novels. This one has it all: characters you get to know well, a somewhat far-fetched but believable plot, suspense that doesn't quit and smooth writing that is not self-conscious. Even though we know early on who the killer is, the steadily ratcheting suspense makes the book impossible to put down. I'm looking for more by this author now!

Kathleen George has again captured human nature, and put it on paper. It's always a treat to read her books. The characters are flawed and good at the same time. Here you get a taste of Pittsburgh as well as a slice of life. Here you meet women both diverse and interesting. Be careful not to start her books unless you have time to do nothing else. Enjoy.

I didn't read this book straight through. I would read a few chapters, the head another book, go back for a few chapters, read another book. The last chapters kept me interested.

Interesting premise and the book had some promise... pacing got bad in spots and it wasn't terribly great... but enjoyable.

Pittsburgh is my hometown. I enjoy reading Kathleen's stories because she makes each story seem true to life in my hometown. And Richard Christie is a character you don't get third of following.
Narim
Disappointed in this writer, much too much minutiae, clogging the characters making this as tedious book and will not get more by this author
Nalmergas
I did not like the going back and forth theme.
Good reading.......couldn't wait to get into it again
