Character development is great. Psychopathology is well researched and as if the author has a degree in Forensic Pathology. This story is set in winter on Superior' s ice . The addition of sex clubs made it interesting.
I highly recommend for a mature reader.

There is so much going on in this book. I like having Stride back in Minnesota. He seems to fit better here. Also this allows Maggie to be more a part of the book. I thought I had the killer figured out. Then there was another twist to the book and I thought I was wrong. In the end, I was right. There was more going on that I thought. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I loved this book, but then again I have loved all of the Jonathan Stride series books. As always they are action packed and have me at the edge of my seat. And when things start falling into place, I cannot stop reading because he writes in such a way that just draws the reader into the action that you just can't stop! His books are also like a roller coaster ride. Freeman takes you up the big hill and drops you fast thinking you know what is going on, but then the next hill comes and it takes you on a whole other plunge constantly changing directions. This is an excellent book and I often recommend this series to others who want to read a gritty mystery about the underbelly of society, with no holds barred. Maybe I am being picky, but I figured out something pretty early on and I just hate when that happens but don't worry, Freeman is great at throwing an awesome change up. Excellent read! 5 stars!

In the first two books of this series, the victims were people we could easily hold at a distance. Not so in Stalked. In this book, the husband of Jonathan Stride's police partner is found shot to death, with his partner's gun, and the gun is too far away from the body to be a suicide. Of course, his partner , Maggie, goes on leave and is the active suspect in a murder, and Jonathan must do everything he can to save her.

This book is a bit different from the first two in that it takes a while for the pace to pick up. We also have a murderer who hides in plain sight, which is also different. However, the final 100 pages more than make up for any slowness. it's in this book that Freeman turns the series towards far more dramatic endings. If this book were a movie, I'd say his endings go from 2D to 3D with this book, something followed up even stronger in the fourth book.

I've commented before that Freeman is very good at characterizations. In this book, he delves into Stride's partner's life. She becomes a very real character, with lots of problems and challenges. He did a similar thing with Stride's Las Vegas police partner in book two, and I'd have to say he's even more nuanced this time.

It's rare to see this quality of characterization in a police procedural series. Writers like Robert Wilson do pull this off in their own series as well, but they are clearly the exception. Despite suggestive covers and titles, these books are far more than guilty pleasures.

Love love love this author. I have read 4 of his books now and can't put them down. There are so many twists and turns in the book it is mind boggling. When I think the book is about to end, there is still a quarter of the book to read and don't see the end coming. Can't wait to read book 4. Keep them coming. He makes the characters so real that it is so easy to get engrossed in the lives of the characters.

Another thriller by Freeman. This one has some really crazy events and some real whacky stuff in it. And a hell of a twist at the end. Characters to love and hate in this one as with most of his books. I really like Freeman's writing and his character Jonathan Stride.

Brian Freeman continues to impress in his third chilling novel featuring Jonathan Stride and his second with his lover, Serena Dial. The plot outline has been well recounted here by others, but what is so compelling about this author is the way he leads the reader along to believe one set of facts and then turns things in on themselves in a way that keeps the pages turning and the lights on late into the night.

Freeman's books contain copious amounts of graphic violence and sex, however none of it is gratuitous. This is, as the book jacket describes it about Obsession, Blackmail and Murder....In zero degrees. But the story is red hot.
Had to read fast because I could wait to find out what would happen next.
