I have been reading and greatly enjoying Straub and King novels over the years, and would give five stars to many if not most of them. I thought I might discover a new author to add to my favorites list here, but this anthology did not provide one. Did not care for the stories. I agree with other reviewers that they were not satisfying. I would not compare them to or associate them with Mr. Poe. I do see an attempt to modernize the horror genre but it rather disappointed me.

This is an anthology of horror. The stories were all well crafted and riveting. This is one of those books you will re-read.

Stories by other writers chosen by Straub. I didn't care for a lot of the stories. YOu might.

I love to read short fiction, and I loved the collection pulled together for this book.

I was a little disappointed because the stories included by my favorite authors are simply taken from the authors' previous compilations.

The book included some stories by authors that I hadn't read before, and my interest was peaked. Overall, I was pleased.

This is a series of short stories edited by Peter Straub, was really disappointed didn't enjoy at all. I like Peter Straub but really felt like he and the other authors missed the boat.

I've read about half the stories in the book so far and I've really enjoyed about 80% of it. If you love literary psychological horror (is that a genre these days?) then you would probably like this book very much. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would.

wonderful. love it.
Very enjoyable reads, except for the piece by Straub.
