The Bangkok Secret Hardcover – October 11, 1990. Triangle from 1973 to 1976, and climaxing in Bangkok in 1991. An ambitious effort on paper, but not a novel that sustained interest throughout, and certainly one that never revealed any great secret.

Found the book interesting and detailed on the part of Thai tradition beliefs and mentality.
Found the ending little rushed
Phobism
This book's plot -- and even its title --- is a bit of a teaser, especially for those readers with a knowledge of Thai history. The book starts with the untimely death of young King Rama VIII in 1946. The author takes the reader into the room where this "incident" occurred and leads you to believe that all will be revealed, or at least explained in a satisfactory manner, at some point. Only that never happens. I don't think I'm giving away any important part of the plot by telling you this, only warning you not to expect any "big bang" moment. That never happens.

As a novel, this isn't bad, but I felt that the plot ---- or plots, plural, would be more accurate --- wandered too much, and was spread out over an unnecessarily long length of time; starting with the King Rama VIII death in 1946, on to Chiang Mai in 1950, an "Interlude" in London and Paris in 1955, into the wilds of the Golden Triangle from 1973 to 1976, and climaxing in Bangkok in 1991.

An ambitious effort on paper, but not a novel that sustained interest throughout, and certainly one that never revealed any great secret.
