Lisabet Sarai writes some of the hottest, smartest erotica around and this book is no exception. I became addicted to words at an early age. I began reading when I was four. I wrote my first story at five years old and my first poem at seven. Since then, I've written plays, tutorials, scholarly articles, marketing brochures, software specifications, self-help books, press releases, a five-hundred page dissertation, and of course, lots of erotica and erotic romance

By day, Miranda Cahill is pursuing her doctorate in English literature. But at night, she haunts the streets, bars, and clubs of the city, engaging in anonymous, outrageous sexual liaisons. The line between her two selves begins to blur when she discovers that her masked partner in a fetishistic orgy and a bookish colleague who has been wooing her are the same person.

This book had a great variety of terrific sex scenes, but the author cannot write dialogue to save her life. They all end up sounding like wooden Indians. There is also excessive fixation on butts. But other than that, she gets a wide variety of experiences. the hero is a fun and intriguing character, even if he does turn out to be a bit too good to be true in places. It can also be a bit too much of the same thing when she recreates the scenes from the Victorian erotic diary. On the whole, though, a good read. Especially the end in London.
This book was hard to put down. I was soo wrapped in the plot and the courage of the main character, time flew by and I read this book in an afternoon! If you like hot steamy encounters and fantasy brought to life, this book is a must. If you are sqeamish about non-monogamous sex, this book is not for you.
2.5 Stars, 5 Flames
By day Miranda is a demure, conservative doctorate student working on her Victorian Erotica thesis. By night, she is a sex kitten who is eager to explore her voracious sexual appetite.

Sounds pretty amazing right? Yeah, captured my attention right out the gate. Too bad I didn’t realize it was going to be nothing but sex without real substance in this book. I love smut as much as the next Erotica reader, because let’s face it, it’s the sex that intrigues us into reading it in the first place. But too much of a good thing can be bad.

I have read some really great erotic romance novels and some really bad ones. This one falls somewhere in between. It had some really great highlights like how she learned to be content with who she is and realize that her appetite although insatiable in the right context is quite special. The scenes between the couples were great and some done in great detail; even down to the point of smell. I think Miranda is very brave and I do applaud her taking hold of her desires and running with it; even if it was extreme because today in our society some things are still taboo.

What really turned me off with this book was the uncaring disregard for her safety, which after half way through the book she realized how unsafe some of the situations she put herself in was. Then it was every sex scene took about four to five pages (if not longer) then it’s a page and half of reprieve then sex again. I ended up skimming them because it was pretty much the same things over and over again; especially after she read from the diary or hearing about someone else’s sex life she gets horny and would need release. Side note: I believe her being “betrayed and abandoned” by her first lover is slightly exaggerated as it was one night and really has nothing to do with her insatiable lust.

In the end it was hard for me to connect with this book because of the seemingly never-ending sex, which can be great in some context but not for over 200 pages. Also, reader beware: READ THE DISCLAIMER before diving into this book.

I was gifted a copy of this book from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review. The opinions and ratings are my own and I was in no way compensated.
Having been hurt by her first lover years before, Miranda now spends all her time working on her academic pursuits. The only thing she allows herself to truly care about is her study of Victorian erotica. Though she'd like to meet someone, she gets nervous and withdraws when she meets a man she might actually like. When her uninhibited roommate Lucy takes her out to a club, she is shocked to find herself engaging in wild, anonymous sex in a cloakroom. Her secret desires come out then and she begins to act on them, but at the same time she draws back every time her attractive colleague Mark tries to make any type of advance.

Miranda finally allows herself to begin to spend time with Mark, but she is hiding many secrets. Her sexual awakening, fueled by a Victorian diary she found, is changing her in unexpected and sometimes frightening ways. Unknown to Miranda, Mark is hiding something as well. Will the secrets tear them apart, or bring them closer together?

I will preface this review by saying Incognito is not for the faint of heart. The genre description doesn't even begin to describe what goes on in this book. If you don't like anonymous sex, fairly hardcore BDSM, same-sex activity, multi-partner activity, etc., don't pick this book up. That said, however, Incognito is a very hot read. The parallel-storyline device using Miranda's sexual awakening and the activities of the woman, Beatrice, in the Victorian diary, was well done and interesting. I could understand Miranda's reluctance to get involved again after being so badly hurt by her first lover. Her love interest, Mark, initially seemed kind and sweet, but had hidden depths. Most of the (many, many) sex scenes were well written and hot. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling the romance at all. Incognito read more like pure erotica to me. Miranda had several one-night stands with strangers, one or two of which kind of freaked me out. Her behavior at times was completely reckless and even dangerous, and a few times I thought I'd be offering her the name of a good therapist if she were a real person. While I can appreciate a bit of kink, Miranda and Mark never seemed to connect in any way other than through their mutual desire for ever more risky sex. If you're in the mood for lots of hot sex without much emotion, Incognito will fit the bill. If you want more connection and romance, however, look elsewhere.
