A View from the Bridge is a play by American playwright Arthur Miller. It was first staged on September 29, 1955, as a one-act verse drama with A Memory of Two Mondays at the Coronet Theatre on Broadway. The run was unsuccessful, and Miller subsequently revised the play to contain two acts; this version is the one with which audiences are most familiar. The two-act version premiered in the New Watergate theatre club in London's West End under the direction of Peter Brook on October 11, 1956.

A View from the Bridge. For a long time I had not permitted a second New York production of A View from the Bridge principally because I had no desire to see it through the mill a second time. However, a year or so after its first production it was done with great success in London and then in Paris, where it ran two years. It is done everywhere in this country without any apparent difficulty in reaching the emotions of the audience.

This play, like many from Aurthur Miller is a think piece. You have to really sit with these characters and dissect them because chances are, they've been a part of your life, or someone you know. Eddie is a complicated individual with so much heart, and yet, he has these thoughts that are morally wrong and unable to confront them. It causes trouble the more he pretends he's in the right, eventually to his own detriment. And poor Catherine; an orphan who never had the rules drawn out for her. She had to learn things in a short time, and though innocent, even in her niave state, she knew something wasn't right, and changed it so that she could be her own woman. There's a lot of subtext and a lot of tension throughout the entirety of this play, but it's great. From beginning, middle to end.

I was surprised that I had not read this book 100 years ago when I was in high school, perhaps I did but obviously for a class and nothing more. The play portrays a character that is very real today in terms of the political divisions and debates in the country: struggling white male blue-collar worker, immigration, and loss of hope in the "way of doing things the way we always have." Short buy very enjoyable read.

As a fan of Arthur Miller, I was shocked that I had never read this play. I saw a theater production of this was more than intrigued by the characters. This is a must read and see for any true theater fan.

Had to read it for school - very dark - poor grammar for student learning English!

This is the story that obviously sprouted similar stuff. A great read. Timeless. Moving on to read the rest. Amazing.

I read the book early in my college years. I recently read it again and did not feel moved by it.
This is an impressive piece! I have no idea how I didn't read it sooner. Had it as a requirement in a Lit class, and was blown away by the fact that I got to analyze such a great example of Americana.
