As in the other Walker books I’ve read, I learned a lot of history. Walker educates us on the plights affecting Native populations all around the world; Hawaii and Australia in particular. Alice Walker preaches being in touch with oneself, with others, and with the land.

As in the other Walker books I’ve read, I learned a lot of history. Beautiful writing, tough, visceral subject matter at times; ethereal characters. Walker’s fiction illuminates reality.

This is an unusual novel, moving from one journey to another as the main character, Kate, works through her life experience. The closeness of women, wounded but ultimately courageous women, carries forward Alice Walker's themes from other works.Transformation and the necessity to tell one's story and to link it to the stories of others is a key theme as well. I found this a beautiful book, but, perhaps, it is not for all readers.

How I loved this story. If you have been a seeker in life, you will relate very much to the journey of the main character. If you have communed with Yage, you will DEFINITELY want to read this book. Alice always delivers. I will likely be reading it again.

A lovely book for those who get the nagging feeling there is more to life, or perhaps get the feeling that there isn't anything more to life.
I get something new out of this book every time I read it and I have read it about five times.

A beautiful story of love, travel and discovery. Really inspiring for anyone looking to grow or evolve in their life.
Tansino
A book about a woman finding her true self. Written on a spiritial plane. Her books are now nothing like those she used to write, which were always so enjoyable.

Ms. Walker never fails to pull me in, entertain, educate, and heal me. It is a quick read, but full of all of the goodness you expect from this incredible author.
A great "coming of age" story for those of us who are over 50 years of age.
