The Fires of Spring was published in 1949, Augie March in 1953. I have read somewhere that Michener himself said that this was the least of his books, but I don't now why. I found it engaging and rewarding
The Fires of Spring was published in 1949, Augie March in 1953. Both authors seem to evolve from much shorter and more simple novels in this, their third novel. Both are semi biographical Bildungsroman novels. At the same time, Augie March is listed on many lists of th so called 100 greatest novels. As I previously stated, I had never heard anyone ever mention The Fires of Spring. Obviously novels are a matter of taste. It is crystal clear to me that reading tastes are evolving. I found it engaging and rewarding.
