I'm a huge fan of the movie Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? which is a mystery/comedy starring George Segal, Jacquline Bisset, and Robert Morely and knew what the story was, but like most movies based off novels Hollywood again didnt get it right. There was a number of changes and quiet a few EYE-OPENERS for me. I dont want to give away any spoilers and the plots are basically the same, but seeing 1 thing in a 1978 comic mystery and reading it in the novel is completly different. I refer to the fashion of how the first 2 chefs are killed. If you have questions let me know but I'll say this if you enjoy a good murder mystery/suspense w/ comedy pieces and fully developed characters and enjoy fine cusine I'd recomend this one.

This was a replacement copy for a book I have read 3-4 times over the years. I have also gifted several copies. One of the funniest books I own. Sadly the movie could not capture the sophisticated humor and turned it into slapstick. Ignore that. Read this instead. You don't even have to be a foodie to enjoy.

I read this book, which I long ago lost after loaning it to a friend, and saw the associated film many years ago and just adored both. I tried and failed to get it an e-book version of it but having a hardcopy is just fine. The plot is amusing and suspenseful. If you enjoy light amusing mysteries and reading about good food, then this might just be up your alley!

Most people probably know this book as the basis for the 1978 movie "Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?" Indeed, the movie borrows the premise of the book and most of the characters, and much of the funny repartee, especially from the corpulent food critic Achille van Golk (called "Max" in the movie, and memorably played by Robert Morley). However, the movie changes the ending and eliminates a lot of the sexier material in the book, so even if you are familiar with the one, there is still reason to try the other.

I have always loved the movie that was based upon this book and after 30+ years was excited to read the novel and see the changes from one medium to another.

I enjoyed this book when it was first published and carefully guarded my copy. Somehow over the years it went astray. Now that I wanted to read it again, I ordered and received a beautiful, vintage copy that I will not loan out.

The book is an entertaining trip through the world of the professional chef as they are murdered in unique ways. The dialog is entertaining and the characters memorable. The egos of the characters are almost too big to be contained within the volume. Hilarious, entertaining, a little informative, just fun!

Very funny and brilliantly adapted plot to the cooking. I loved the combination of murder and food and relished all the recipes. Very clever !
