Good-day, Sir Bonnet," cried the pirate captain; "comeon board, come on board, all of you, wife, daughter, father, if suchthey be! We'll let down ladders and I shall feast you finely. Nay, nay, good Captain Sorby," replied Bonnet, with courteous dignity,"my family and I have just stopped to pay you our respects. Having tasted the glories of a pirate's career, he couldnever again be contented with plain country pursuits. So he was off andaway, the bounding sea beneath him and the brave Jolly Roger floatingover his head. He would not tell his dear daughter where he was gone orwhat he intended to do, for she would be happier if she did not know.

Think o' that, Master Bonnet, ye are nolonger a pirate. Being so stiff yourself, you may be able to stiffen a little this rag of a master of yours andhelp him to understand the work he has to do, which he will bravely do,I ween, when he finds that to be my clerk is his career. Ha! ha! SirNightcap, the pirate of the pen and ink!" Deeply sunk these words into Stede Bonnet's heart, but he made no sign.

Major Stede Bonnet, the father of Kate, whose mother had died when thechild was but a year old, was a middle-aged . New annoyances now began to beset Major Bonnet. What his daughter hadremarked in pleasantry, the people of the town began to talk aboutunpleasantly.

Major Stede Bonnet, the father of Kate, whose mother had died when thechild was but a year old, was a middle-aged Englishman of a fair estate,in the island of Barbadoes. He had been an officer in the army, was welleducated and intelligent, and now, in vigorous middle life, had become aconfirmed country gentleman.

The great pirate seemed to be in high good spirits, and very glad to seehis visitor. Blackbeard was a large man, wide and heavy, and the firstimpression conveyed by his personality was that of hair and swarthiness. An untrimmed black beard lay upon his chest, and his long hair hung inmasses from under his slouched hat; his eyes were dark and sparkling, and gleamed like beacon lights from out a midnight sky; the sleeves ofhis shirt were rolled up

The story of Kate Bonnet is more adventure than romance, with good characters, and bad characters, and disappointing characters, and silly characters, and wicked characters.

Kate Bonnet is the daughter of a foolish farmer, who is bored with his life (and his new wife) and decides on a whim to become a pirate. Kate, when she hears of her father's naughtiness, sets off to find him and set him to rights. In the meantime she leaves behind the dull personage of the man who loves her, and makes friends with a stout young man and his mother, who travel with her. Kate's father, being the fool he is, falls prey to the wiles and terror of the infamous Blackbeard (yes, he plays a cameo here). Kate gets fallen in love with by a vengeful Naval officer who plans to capture her foolish pirate father and hold him hostage to force her hand in marriage. Kate herself sails on a pirate ship to find her father. Her father is unrepentant.

I could go on, but as you can see this story can be summed up in a rather dull paragraph of blunt sentences.

It's a cute story, something that Disney might catch on to and spruce up, but really not as interesting as I imagined it would be.

This book was awful!!! Very Boring!!! And not worth reading. The whole dialogue dragged out and the ending was sooooo stupid. Because in the end there was no real romance of the pirates daughter!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS BOOK.
Very hard to read. Hard to follow the story. I did finish the book but was glad when it ended.
