It was the late Tom Clancy before him but, in a number of ways, he has gone a fathom or two beyond the amazing Clancy. This is because he has had actual experience on a nuclear submarine. I read a number of DiMercurio's books in paperback and now I've re-discovered him on my Kindle. I hope he keeps at it.

I read this book many years ago, glad to find it finally released on kindle. Action packed and written well with great characters, please release all his books on kindle. I've read them all about three times. All his books are great. I miss them as I gave them all s war assuming they would all be on kindle. You won't be disappointed with this first book.

As a combat Marine (Vietnam), I've never given much thought about the Navy's role in protecting our country...until i read "Devilfish". The author did such s good job of parlaying his knowledge of submarine warfare that it was difficult to remember I was reading fiction vs. history. I will now seek out others of his books, looking forward to being, again, spellbound.

Enjoyed this book. There were a couple of times the author seemed to get a little carried away with his descriptive oration but that wasn't a major issue for me. The book was exciting with a good storyline and well developed characters. This was the first book from this author that I have read but will not be the last. Recommend.

I owned this book as a paperback in the mid 90's and I'm baffled by some of what I perceive as changes that seem to have been made to the text since then. Call me insane, but I recall the Soviet Union still existing in the original (now it's the "Russian Republic"). There are other weird changes too. The enemy sub commander is said to have received a "Peter the Great Medal" for sinking the protagonist's fathers sub decades ago. This doesn't jive time-wise at all with the story... it would have been an Order of Lenin or something similar. The KGB is now the "Federal Security Service". Were these changes made to "update" the book to keep it more relevant or something? They're jarring, pointless, and in some cases actually detract from the story for me.

Otherwise, the book is just how a I remember it. A goofy but fun submarine yarn that takes a lot of liberties with technical details but ultimately delivers a pretty fun read.

These books have great story lines, and they do get your interest. There is one thing that I can quote from the book, that fits the writing style of this author. "Don't ask what time it is because he will tell you how to build a clock". The story line is frequently interrupted by an in depth explanation of how everything works, from missiles, to atomic reactors. I have skipped many pages with these explanations to get back to the story that's being told. Having said this, I have read all five books.

DiMercurio is my favorite submarine adventure writer today. If you like submarine adventure stories that include real-world detail about how a sub operates, Voyage of the Devilfish is your cup of tea, as it is mine!

Good book for those who love fiction and action adventure. It is not too long to enjoy on a trip or at the airport. I particularly like the personalities depicted on the book.
This guy completely ignores all the rules of basic nature such as talking about the sunlight at the North Pole the day of the winter solstice. It would be black as pitch up there all during that time. With so many simple things like that being ignored, the rest of the things that he says did or could happen just don't make any sense. It might not have been a bad book if you're done a little research before he wrote and stuck to something approaching common sense.
