WELL, it was the next spring after me and Tom Sawyer set our old nigger Jim free, the time he was chained up for a runaway slave down there on Tom's uncle Silas's farm in Arkansaw. The frost was working out of the ground, and out of the air, too, and it was getting closer and closer onto barefoot time every day; and next it would be marble time, and next mumbletypeg, and next tops and hoops, and next kites, and then right away it would be summer and going in a-swimming.

Tom Sawyer-Detective by Mark Twain is a lesser known codicil to Huckleberry Finn. This twisting tale of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry sees them back down south looking for new adventures. Like the well-known predecessors, this is a beautifully written tale of youth. These two are just awesome together. Also, this story seems more and more like a fanfic to me. Twain Chapter 1: An Invitation for Tom and Huck. I knew before I started reading that this story was going to be too short. I really know it after reading this first chapter.

Like Tom Sawyer Abroad, I felt it messed a little with the established canon of the Adventures of Toim Sawyer and Huck Finn. It was clearly a case of Mark Twain poking fun at a genre of detective story using his favourite characters. This story was not as unbelievable as Tom Sawyer abroad, but still not a book I would read again and again like I did with Huckleberry Finn. sirfurboy, June 1, 2009. Well, me and Tom Sawyer had the spring fever, and had it bad, too; butit warn't any use to think about Tom trying to get away, because, as hesaid, his Aunt Polly wouldn't let him quit school and go traipsing offsomers wasting time; so we was pretty blue. We was setting on the frontsteps one day about sundown talking this way, when out comes his auntPolly with a letter in her hand and says

Mark Twain’s two most famous creations, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, are reunited in this high-spirited and captivating tale of mystery and murder in deepest Arkansas. When Tom and Huck are invited to stay at Tom’s uncle’s farm in Arkansas, they jump at the opportunity to escape the tedium of a long winter at home. A chance encounter on a steamboat downriver, though, leads to a complex plot of diamond heists, mistaken identity, and murder, involving the two boys in a bigger adventure than even they had in mind. Huck’s typically bemused, folksy narration provides a poignant contrast to Tom’s frenetic ingenuity, as the mystery begins tortuously to unravel, and it is in these two wryly affectionate portrayals that Twain breaths life and humor into his charming, unjustly neglected tale. Mark Twain is one of America’s greatest writers. His best-loved work, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is widely considered to be the first modern American novel.

It's a year or two after Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn's big adventure rafting down the Mississippi in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. This is a short novel about Huck and Tom going to visit Tom's aunt and uncle. Tom's uncle has been accused of a murder, but Tom is on the case to find the real killer. The plot of this little book reminds me a lot of Puddin'head Wilson. It's a fun little book, but not anywhere in the league of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

This is more or less just an extension of Huckleberry Finn with Huck and Tom involved in a murder case at Tom's Aunt Sally's place in Arkansas. Mark Twain penned this novella about ten years later but its setting is only a year or two after they break Jim out at Aunt Sally's.
This is a children's edition so I shouldn't have been too surprised certain offensive words beginning with 'N' are changed to 'Negroe'. I suppose this is better than one well intentioned publisher who raised a storm of controversy a couple years ago by changing the offending word in a new edition of Huckleberry Finn to 'slave'. But the word was considered normal in Twain's day and the terrible scourge of slavery won't be undone by editing classic literature.
This is a fun little story, told from Huck's perspective and certainly appropriate for young and old alike, even with (or perhaps because of?) the editing

Read multiple reviews that listed the best home school reading sets for children. In the top five book sets are the Companion Library set, My Bookhouse, Childrens Hour, and Journeys Through Book Land. This was my son's second long story to read cover to cover. It really helped him develop a love for reading which is my goal.

I read this book in my early teens and enjoyed it a lot. Over the last few months I have been very stressed and I wanted something that made me remember the happier times in my life. Also, I just started using the amazon kindle app on my tablet and this was the perfect read. Now that I'm in my late 30s the adventures of Tom Sawyer were more amusing than fascinating and it was exactly what I needed to hit reset. I didn't want a self-help, melancholy book, just something to make me laugh. This hit the spot ^_^

I am a old man and have been a fan of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn since I was a teenager. I have read and enjoyed other Twain books but Tom and Huck have always been my favorites and I have laughed many times while reading of their adventures. This was my first time reading Tom Sawyer detective and it was good to follow these two characters a little further in their lives. It was a good and fast read, I recommend it to any Tom and Huck fans.

This book is the better sequel to the adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. In this book we see Huck and Tom revisiting Uncle Silas.
Now Jim stays at home, which is for the better. In Abroad, he and Tom argued too much, it was funny at first but got tiring. That is not to say this book is perfect but better.
I breezed through this book, and the majority of it seemed rather boring and unimportant, but it is the last chapter that makes all this reading worth it. Like all the other books, the ending is really weak.
This book good, I recommend reading this over Abroad. This is the last fully published book of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, and it is a very fitting end for very unforgettable characters.

Tom's growing up. Still looking out for his own self interest, but now concerned about others, too. Really liked this the best, but I won't give it away.
These are just fantastic books. Tom Saywer is the first of these classics that I read to my kids and they absolutely loved it. The book itself is beautifully bound and seems like almost a collectors item. I found that they really did manage to capture all the best parts of the original and kept the pace going so the kids couldn't get enough. Well done....will collect all the Classic Start books!
