THE LAST HUNTER By Jeremy Robinson OTHER NOVELS by JEREMY ROBINSON Threshold (coming in 2011) Instinct Pulse Kronos Antarktos Rising Beneath Raising the Past. - Publisher's Weekly. Jeremy Robinson’s THRESHOLD is one hell of a thriller, wildly imaginative and diabolical, which combines ancient legends and modern science into a non-stop action ride that will keep you turning the pages until the wee hours.

So I picked the first book in his Last Hunter series, and so far I'm not disappointed. If you have read any of Jeremy's books, then you know the awesome flavor he deals out on the page. The story is of the YA variety, but don't let that put you off. It centers around a boy named Solomon, who due to circumstances was the first child born on Antarctica since who knows how long. His books have big action with relatable characters who fight fantasy monsters, The monsters are grounded enough in some reality that they come out hardcore and never corny. The plots are the same.

The Last Hunter book. In The Last Hunter - Descent (Book 1 of the Antarktos Saga), Solomon Ull Vincent finds out as he is literally dragged away from his family and plunged into an antediluvian world of violence and intrigue.

I've been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Again, some would have me believe the fracture took place as I entered the world.

The Last Hunter - Descent by Jeremy Robinson is the first of a series of three young adult books in the Antarktos Saga. I wanted to read The Last Hunter because I enjoyed Antarktos Rising so much. This is a pre-story to Antarktos Rising. In The Last Hunter - Descent thirteen year old Solomon Ull Vincent has always felt different but never knew if it was based on his intelligence and perfect memory, or if it was due to his birth place - Antarctica. Now he is returning to Antarctica. Once there, Solomon is kidnapped.

DESCRIPTION:I've been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Other than that, the only verifiable fact about the day I was born is that an iceberg the size of Los Angeles broke free from the ice shelf a few miles off the coast. Again, some would have me believe the fracture took place as I entered the world. But all that really matters, according to my parents, is that I, Solomon Ull Vincent, the first child born on Antarctica—the first and only Antarctican—was born on September 2nd, 1974.If only someone could have warned me that, upon my return to the continent of my birth thirteen years later, I would be kidnapped, subjected to tortures beyond comprehension and forced to fight...and kill. If only someone had hinted that I'd wind up struggling to survive in a subterranean world full of ancient warriors, strange creatures and supernatural powers. Had I been warned I might have lived a normal life. The human race might have remained safe. And the fate of the world might not rest on my shoulders. Had I been warned... This is my story—the tale of Solomon Ull Vincent—The Last Hunter. The Antarktos Saga is now complete! I wanted to try something a little different than the books I usually read, fortunately an author I enjoy, Jeremy Robinson, had a few different type of stories. So I picked the first book in his Last Hunter series, and so far I'm not disappointed. The story is of the YA variety, but don't let that put you off. It centers around a boy named Solomon, who due to circumstances was the first child born on Antarctica since who knows how long. Now Solomon isn't all that physically strong but he has a perfect memory as he remembers everything he'd seen or heard at any time. He also wants to go back to Antarctica, something his parents had balked on, until his thirteenth birthday. Then things happen.

It's hard to judge this story in an of itself as it's obviously the world builder book, and Robinson does lay a good foundation here. And just a warning a good chunk of the story takes place in area you might be taken by surprise by. It also deals with a bit of what happened on the day of Solomon's birth and the events that happened that day. Solomon starts out interesting but there are some major twists in his story as the tale goes along. The side characters are good, one that i didn't expect to see again at the end of the book. And the setting is interesting enough, and there was a twist there I know I didn't expect. But again this was the foundation book, and there's obviously more to come.

I think I would recommend it. it does get a bit barbarian-esque when the meat of the story does get started. So if you like that sort of thing that I'd say pick it up, if you enjoy Jeremy Robinson's style of writing I'd say pick it up.

From my wife Sarah: Others have described the story, so I'll get right to it:

This is possibly my favorite scifi/fantasy series of all time, and it's definitely in the top 3. It was one of the most creative, imaginative, intriguing, exciting and moving book series I've ever read, and I read a lot. I simply couldn't put the books down, literally. I was reading anywhere I could. I completed the 5 books in this series in less than two weeks. Here are some of the reasons I enjoyed the series:

- The story is really exciting, and it's very original. I've never read anything quite like it.
- It's got depth. Without being preachy in any way, it subtly teaches positive values like faithfulness, forgiveness, the value of life, trust, using wisdom...
- It's full of intense edge of your seat action.
- The characters are so fully developed and deep that you feel you know them. I was actually sad when the series ended.
- It's full of fantasy elements, but it makes it seem absolutely possible and realistic.
- In a totally interesting and captivating way, it weaves in things like science, geography, world religious history.
- The writing is just fantastic - it leads you to vividly live this story in your imagination.

It's definitely at least as good a read as the Hunger Games series by the way.

It does have a lot of violence and battle, and the main character is kidnapped as a child. So if you're choosing for your child, this is something to consider.

I would personally say that it's good for young teens and up. It's certainly a great choice for adults as well.

If you have read any of Jeremy's books, then you know the awesome flavor he deals out on the page. His books have big action with relatable characters who fight fantasy monsters, The monsters are grounded enough in some reality that they come out hardcore and never corny. The plots are the same. They are roller coaster rides but intelligently done so you are never taken out of the story.
This book, unlike his others, is not as gory, has no cussing, and no adult romance. Still, hits as hard as his other books. It never feels like it's sanitized or that he's pulling punches. You are right there and get all the "butt" kicking you expect from this style of book. I know he planed this as a YA book, but it reads as if it just happened to work out that way.
This is a great book to pick up, especially for Boys, who have run out of Hunger Games books. It's also about a teen boy, who is a strong male character with out having to be sexiest or superficially macho. I love the idea here. He is trying to fight between being the savage killer and being a real person. If you are at all into thriller (for adults, kids, or teens) You should pick this up.

If the thing you liked about Hunger Games was the Twilight style romance and just endured the rest of it to find out what happened with that Bread Guy... then pick out a different book.

The plot, pacing, and writing was pulled off beautifully with The Last Hunter.

As I began to read it I though "how is the writer going to pull this all together?" and then as I continued to read it, it just pulled together well, not even a hitch when they reach the frozen, unforgiving land of Antarctica.

I kept thinking "why the heck does he want to go THERE?" through the beginning, kind of in the way you might think when you see "Silent Hill"...whyyyy? But I thought it was a really interesting idea that Solomon had been born there and there was some creepy, horrific, strangely lonesome destiny for him and I couldn't stop reading it once I started.

His food choices made me cringe (not like he had much of a choice) and I was surprised how quickly he adapted to Antarctica. A scene pops out at me still. "Crybaby." You'll know what I mean when you read it.

I liked how it ended. I'm anxious for another one in the series already :)

Great story. Great book. I enjoyed reading it.
