Proulx; she lives in Wyoming (the book is partially autobiographical), and writes what she lives. She writes w/ insight and empathy, descriptions are vivid. This story is the second in a trilogy, My Friend Flicka being the first. I'm presently trying to wade thru The Drifters by James Michener, and can't believe the hoorah! regarding Michener, when I compare to O'Hara. Just 2 books I happen to be reading at the same time, and there is simply no comparison. A follow-up to the childhood classic My Friend Flicka
