My daughter loves this book so much that we had to keep checking it out of the library over and over. I finally had to get her her own copy so they could have theirs back!

There's a gentle humor to this book, and somehow Mr. James manages to convey in the brief arena of a children's book, a real gamut of a child's emotions in such a way that you know exactly how Sally feels. This is the sort of children's book that adults *want* to read to their children.

The story is a bit short and lacking. My daughter read it once and never opened it again.

I needed to replace one that we lost from my daughter's school--- this fit the bill! Good quality- as promised.

We discovered author and illustrator Simon James not long ago when we found Dear Greenpeace at the library not long ago. It very quickly became one of our favorites.

While looking through the picture books at the school library this week, the cover of Sally and the Limpet caught my eye; a sweet illustration with soft colors that makes you happy just looking at it. When I realized it was by Simon James, I quickly put it in out "check out" pile.

When my eldest got back home from school and saw the book on the coffee table, he grabbed it and read it in a quiet corner of the living room. When I asked him how he liked it and he answered, "I loved it. Even more than Dear Greenpeace," I couldn't wait to read it.

Sally goes to the beach one day and finds a limpet with a nice, big, pretty shell. She finally manages to pull it off the rock it was on, only to get it stuck on the top of her finger. Which is where the limpet decides to stay!

Try as they might, neither Sally, her father, brother, friends, teacher nor doctor can pull it off. Sally starts to get very frustrated towards the end, getting overwhelmed with all the fuss that's going on around her. But despite it all, she comes up with a clever solution herself, making sure the limpet is good and happy in the process.

I love the way Sally is portrayed by the author, as a real child with real emotions, who gets fed up with her situation, just wanting "to be on her own" at one point in the story. I also love the discrete focus on the importance of nature and the respect we should have for it.

Before I reveal anything that will spoil the book for you, I will wrap things up with one final word: Go get a copy of Sally and the Limpet!

This story is about a girl who goes to the beach and takes a limpet off a rock. It then sticks to her finger. The rest of the book details all sorts of people doing all sorts of things to get the limpet off her finger. In the end, she accidentally discovers what the limpet needs.

Before I became a parent, I taught marine biology in the field. I would read this book to students from fourth grade to seniors in high school as an introduction to invertebrates (animals without backbones - the limpet is an invertebrate). All the students loved it, and especially seniors. It brought what most students see as an uninteresting rock-like, motionless thing to life.

Now I'm a parent, and my sons, especially my higher-energy son (currently 4), have loved this book. They readily identify with Sally, and love the limpet. It also helped them learn that they can't remove an animal from its home and expect it to remain happy and healthy.

I don't live by the ocean anymore, but I think the lesson in the book is still relevant. (If you homeschool, or simply like to use books as conversation-starters, this can bring up topics like the environment, habitats, morality, etc.)

This is our preshool teachers favorite book. We loved it from the moment the childrens librarian came to the school to read it. The illustrations are wonderful they remind me of the illustrations I remember from my childhood books. My sons favorite page is where Sally has HAD it with the doctor fussing over her so she knocks over the chair and makes a run for it out the door, down the hall and to the beach. I'm sure he can relate to wanting to run away when everyone is fussing over him.

We really enjoyed the book - could have enjoyed it a little more if we knew a limpet was a sea snail - that could have been put on the first page of the story
my son though a limpet was a rock.
My 6 year old son is into all things water, including snails and limpets. He LOVED this book. The pictures are very simple but the story is cute and we have read it about 5 times already.
