Langston is her inspiration because his poems make her "dreams run wild. In simple, joyful verse Perdomo tells of this "Harlem girl" from "Harlem world" whose loving, supportive father tells her she is "Langston's genius child. The author's own admiration for Hughes's artistry and accomplishments is clearly felt in the voice of this glorious child. Langston's spirit is a gentle presence throughout the description of his East 127th Street home and his method of composing his poetry sitting by the window.

Visiting Langston book

Visiting Langston book. The illustrations by Bryan Collier are vivid; they look like oil painting cut-outs, overlaid to create a 3-dimensional tapestry. I think this book could be used as an introduction to poetry for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. Willie Perdomo has done a cool tribute picture book Visiting Langston is picture book, where we follow an African-American pre-teen girl as she and her father visit the house of Langston Hughes in present day Harlem. The girl narrates this journey through a poem she has written.

The book is very good and entertaining. It's a great story told frol a young poets point of view. The book I received had a small tear in one of the pages, but the seller gave me a full refund without having to return the book. That was very nice of them.

Magnetically illustrated, your eyes will be dazzled on the pages. The words sound with rhythm as a young girl prepares and visits the historic home of Langston Hughes. This is a sweet biography for easy and beginning readers. They will spend hours looking at the illustrations and filling in imagination. A great read and enjoyment; it’s recommended reading.
ME
Our unnamed narrator clearly is thrilled about visiting the home of her hero, Langston Hughes. She tells us about him and who he was (in neat rhyming verse), and also about herself and her own poems.

Short, upbeat - suitable for older children learning poetry or about black history, and for younger children as well. Even a very small child should be able to sit through and understand this one.
Gentle cadence to the words, depth in both context and artwork, articulate authenticity of childhood memories given weight of some better understanding through hindsight.

This book is a treasure to share with our children of all ethnicities, to begin dialogues with them which will nourish them and their fellows and their children and so forth through gardens and offices and libraries and schools and temples and homes.
