It was a very very general book and imho not suitable for any college prep courses but more for remedial students or students whose reading o. .

The books in the series are a great supplement to the history books being used by my son's school. These books go into more detail in the same things, and leave him with a better understanding. Uses an almost conversational tone, which he enjoys more than the "monologue"-style of the textbook. We got the whole series, and he reads them just for fun.

The book is not anything like the concise versions by Joy Hakim, that the brick and mortar schools use. This book is very thin and skimpy. My teens are in late middle school/ high school and it looks written for elementary students.However, I haven't bought the whole set, because I wanted to see for myself first. I like Joy's style of telling a story and agree with most of her opinions on things.If you don't like history being told like a story with author's opinions and you don't mind a shorter version of the concise series, then this book is for you.

We love this series of books. They contain interesting, often off the beaten trail history which is enjoyable to read and the plus side is, you are learning something you probably have not read in any other history book. We use them as a supplement to our High School US History curriculum.

My daughter has used this in her schoolwork. She says she enjoys the presentation of this highly readable history.
We are using this with our 4th grade homeschool curriculum and I love Joy Hakim's books. They offer historical information that is on-level for many ages, yet not presented in a text book format. It is told somewhat in story form, which makes it interesting for my child. There are interesting pictures throughout each chapter as well. Definitely worth the money.
