A cow that oinks and a pig that moos are ridiculed by the other barnyard animals until each teaches the other a new sound. Most slips several important morals-and considerable wit-into this entertaining barnyard tale, which centers on a cow that says "Oink" rather than "Moo. The other cows all laugh at this poor creature ("Moo-ha"), as do all of the other animals on the farm ("Neigh-ha"; "Baa-ha"; "Cluck-ha"; et. The cow is despondent, until one day she hears a friendly "Moo. Much to her surprise, the sound comes from a pig, who is also ostracized by her peers (who, of course, laugh "Oink-ha").

From Bernard Most, famous for his dinosaur picture books, is a picture book about farm animals, particularly a cow that goes OINK. That cow is all alone, sad, and embarrassed, because all the other animals laugh at her for not knowing how to "moo. They laugh in fun variations on animal sounds, like Moo-Ha, Hee-Haw-Ha, or Bow-Wow-Ha.

Disappointed after reading the reviews and then the book. My granddaughter really likes cows and other animals, but so much time spent on the other animals ridiculing the "different" ones, I've only read it to her once without much interest on her part. It also made me feel like I had to explain the reason for the story. Hmmmm. Since the illustrations and limited vocabulary lean toward a young audience, I think this one misses the mark. Perhaps for early to mid-elementary age children to start discussion on tolerance, the point of the book, but lost on younger readers.

This is such a charming book: it teaches the lesson to strive to learn and not give up. The fact that the cow and the pig get laughed at and get the last laugh is not mean-spirited in the least to me - it delivers the subtle message that people who are different can get through tough times and change opinions in the process. I hope the negative review doesn't deter others one bit from reading to any child. The lesson is delivered with humor.

Great to reinforce bi-lingual values, as others have said.

What's more, this book delighted my young children so much, they were motivated to try to sound out the strange words with me, as the cow and pig tried to learn their new sounds. M-oink! Love it so much.

"The Cow That Went Oink" is a wonderful children's book that helps children appreciate and even celebrate their differences while getting a good laugh. This ranks as one of my son's favorite books.

The other barnyard animals laugh at the Cow because it can only say "oink" and laugh at the pig because it can only say "moo". The cow and the pig help each other learn to speak their "native languages" and in the process surpass the animals who have made fun of them.

I HIGHLY recommend this book for ANY child, but especially for children who are struggling with their differences in preschool and kindergarten.

Love this story. It is just so sweet and so cute. No huge political or social messages, just a nice story for children about a cow who doesn't know how to "moo" and a pig that can not "oink." A favorite in our home.

I don't have first hand info on each of the four or five books I sent. I did hear that the beneficiary of the gift was able to read one or two of the books by himself, and the other books renewed his interest in reading. I'm happy to include this book in the selection. The beneficiary's mom was also happy to see the interest in reading.

My 2-year-old daughter now insists on this book every night at bedtime, and that is a rare occurrence for her. We first checked it out from the library, and after having to renew it twice, broke down and got our own copy. She loves to hear all the silly animal sounds, and I think that's the main hook for her, but the pictures are vivid and fun, too. It's also a fun read-aloud book, which is great when you're the parent who gets to read it over and over and over... :)

I had this book as a child and loved it so I got it my kids. They like the story but as an adult reading it, it does get a bit repetitive to say Oink and Moo so much haha
Got this book for my 3 and 1 year old they love it.
