If you’re as long in the tooth as I am, you can probably remember Patti Page’s rendition of How Much Is That Doggie in the Window? Page recorded the song on December 18, 1952, and within a few months it became Number 1 on both the Billboard and Cashbox charts. Together with one or more photos of dogs like those shown here, simple poems like Sunning can easily inspire students at all levels from elementary school through college to write many different kinds of compositions. Who are some famous dogs that have appeared in literature, on television, and in films?

I gave this book/dvd 4 stars because it gave me a great resource for my middle school ESL students at the beginning of each English class. Having the dvd on the Interwrite board was wonderful since some of the students can't see smaller pictures on the board.... and this way everyone could see them fine. They were given the writing choice of either what they saw (using as many desciptive words as possible) or had to make up a story. I got a kick out of some of the stories, which helped them use their imagination. Sometimes they had a different impression of what was going on in the picture, (some were pretty off the wall), but no one ever complained and said they were tired of the pictures and having to write.
I wonder if this book will come with color pictures sometime. That would inspire my students a little bit more since they thought that all of the pictures were really old photos, which they mainly were.
Delivery of this product was prompt and I was so glad to get a great addition for my classroom. (not a waste of $ for once)

This book contains great photos with writing starters. It is great for teachers to use with students or writers who may need a jump start in their writing.

This book was useful for a writing camp I facilitated for our writing project. I was a little disappointed that the images on the CD printed grainy. The idea generators were good for those who couldn't come up with their own ideas. Overall, it was a good book. Nice photos, ideas, and questions.

I use the images and prompts in this book for my senior composition class, and they especially love to write creative pieces in response to the pictures of people of different ages and ethnicities in interesting contexts and settings. Really great for usual leathers in particular.

Kellner's book Write What You See is overflowing with ideas to prompt students to write and write not only about what they see in the photos accompanying the prompts, but also about what the student sees in their mind's eye. The photos he has selected to use with the suggested prompts will encourage all learners, especially the visual learners to write more and with greater details. Having taught 20 years in the 7-12 classroom and now working as a teacher consultant in the teaching of writing I can say I wished I would have had this book while I was in the classroom. I will recommend it to teachers of all content areas.

"Write What You See" is a godsend for writers and teachers of writing. It's a simple premise: Compelling photos spur thoughts and emotions. Serious writers (and student writers) will find much fodder here in the photos, as well as in the prompts.

I teach English, and I regularly heard, "I don't know what to write about." This book fixes that! Everyone has an opinion/feeling on these photos!

I highly recommend this book for poets, prose writers, and for their teachers.
I just received my copy of Write What You See, and I'm thrilled with it. It's everything it promised to be. These beautiful photos, accompanied by quotes, prompts and writing tips, are a bonanza of inspiration. If this book doesn't get your thoughts rolling and the writing flowing, nothing will! I can't wait to get started.
