Great, easy-to-use thesaurus for high school students who struggle in their writing. It's been useful in helping students avoid repeated use of simpler words and expanding their vocabularies.
Teaching at a charter school now, I've noticed at previous public school libraries that there were few thesauri, and those
not very student-friendly.
I keep my copy at my school so my middle- to high-school special ed students have access to it after some brief teacher-l;ed individual investigation and exploration.

Purchased two of these to help my grandchildren strengthen their vocabulary, spelling, and awareness of word meaning. My grandkids are in 5th and 6th grade . . . and sadly, spelling word lists are not handed out by teachers anymore. Spelling knowledge is accomplished by reading or happenstance. This thesaurus is a great reference for any child to help provide definition of words-- and provides new words that mean the same thing. A thesaurus is so useful when writing papers in school. A must have to get A's in language skills!

I bought the dictionary and thesaurus for our homeschool library. I love them both. At the front of the book a lesson in thesaurus use, as well as parts of speech and other helpful language arts tid bits can be found. When there are no true synonyms for a word it is explained in a highlighted "Word Group" box by the specific entry. My six year old can use this thesaurus, and she will continue to use it for quite some time. It is quite helpful and user friendly!

Example from book:

helpful adjective beneficial, handy, useful, valuable, practical, good, productive, constructive. My friend gave me some helpful advice. Antonyms: useless, worthless

Or

Word Group

Shoes are outer coverings for the human foot. Shoe is a general term sieht no true synonyms. Here are some common types of shoes:

My kid uses this reference regularly for his homework and he likes it. The print size is easy to read and blue/bold highlighted words make searching easy. It has just enough info without overwhelming for a young student. The sample sentences and antonyms are also helpful.

I bought this for my second grader as a companion to the dictionary. She really hadn't used a dictionary or thesaurus previously, but has come a long way in a few weeks. She can usually find words she's looking for as long as her spelling isn't too far off. That said, she's reading on a fifth grade level. My first grader is no where near being able to use a thesaurus independently, but we have used it together. I think this thesaurus is a good investment and I imagine that it will carry us through the next 4-5 years into at least early middle school.

Is it ridiculous to get so attached to a thesaurus? Probably, but I love this one. I'm a homeschooler who bought it for my 10 year old son. We had an electronic thesaurus, but scrolling up and down on a tiny screen is not the same as having a hard copy of a thesaurus that is aimed at the middle school level. This one is beautiful and absolutely perfect for teaching him to find replacement words to make his writing more colorful. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

I bought this for my 4th grader. I like the name of the book calling it a Student Thesaurus versus a Children's Thesaurus. I think she will use this book longer just because of the title. Who wants to be in the 6th grade using a book with the word Children's on it?!!

It is a nice mixture of words & some colorful pictures to break up the page & give it some life.

I'm thinking as she gets into HS, she will be mostly on the computer & be using the thesaurus there, but I think this book is great for kids ages 3rd grade - 8th grade or until they transition to computer usage only.
I purchase Thesauruses every year as student awards. Just discovered the American Heritage Student Thesaurus and prefer this to the one I have been purchasing - as a bonus the price is lower!
