Kenneth Grahame was a British writer, most famous for The Wind in the Willows, one of the classics of children's literature. Orphaned at an early age, Grahame went to live with his grandmother in England and attended St. Edward’s School, Oxford. Money was lacking for him to go to university. These were followed by Dream Days in 1898, which contains The Reluctant Dragon. The Wind in the Willow began as a series of bedtime stories for his son and was published in 1908. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality, and camaraderie and celebrated for its evocation of the nature of the Thames Valley.
