The book is exactly what you might expect, a good beginners' guide to using databases with C#. Well, it could be. There are just TOO many errors. I don't mean typos either. On a couple of occasions, the code examples were incomplete. In others, the code was inconsistent with the directions in the text. You really find yourself thinking a lot about the code samples in order to get the examples to work. I guess that can be a good thing sometimes because you may understand the code more, but if you are one to get discouraged easily when things don't go as planned, then by all means, steer clear of this one! Three stars is probably generous due to the fundamental flaws of this book.

The word Access isn't in the index or table of contents. I bought this book in the hopes of getting connection info for Access 2016, after switching from Access 2007 where I long ago solved the problem of tapping in from a .NET language. The chapter on connections is tiny and only deals with SQL Server, and then just in a cursory way. There's a whole lot of "Your code may need to vary...."

I see no way this book could help a newby, and it's of no reference use to a veteran. Really, are all the beginners getting jobs using C# to build database apps with SQL and Oracle, so the need this book? Hmm...

Detailed explanations and examples focused solely on Vis Studio 2012 express. Some difficulty if you're using regular Visual Studio 2012.

It is an ok book...
If you know C# you can just skip the noob part and get into the database parts.

Well this book is really for beginners who wants to learn Database integration with C#.
The examples are very good of course will require some commonsense as your local parameter varies.
I would recommend this book for sure.

Simply put, this is a great book. The author does a fantastic job of walking readers through the basics and fundamentals of C# 5.0 with Databases, making the process feel like you're sitting down with a skilled instructor who's moving you from one example to the next. By that, I mean the book is written well enough that much of what you learn feels like things you're discovering on your own—to the point where this book accomplishes one of those things that's very hard to do in teaching: staying one step ahead of learners and letting them discover things on their own. The best part of this book is that when you're done discovering various techniques and approaches to solving problems with C# and the Databases (ADO.NET examples), you've come to a clear understanding of how and why various best practices exist—because you've walked through the less than ideal solutions along the way as the author pointed out the weaknesses and failings of non–best practices implementations.
Another strength of this book is that it starts with the basics and moves to more advanced topics. Therefore, more advanced readers will find that they can easily skim through some of the earlier chapters and then slow down as they start approaching concepts and techniques they're not as familiar with.
I Enjoyed and learned lot by reading this book, Thanks to Author of this book .
First I must say I am annoyed that I have to ignore my 3 month old baby to do a review but I am so baffled and disappointed that I feel a review is needed.
From the beginning of this book to the end all you get are errors, the codes are all inaccurate. What I find really shocking is that there are no Errata Files on the website of the book. I personally do not believe this book was ever edited. How can someone do this? Who writes a programming book loaded with errors?

Here is an error example:
Page 214 Chapter 13:

The Authors instructs that you do the following:

1. Create a new Windows Forms Application project named Chapter13. When
Solution Explorer opens, save the solution.

2. Rename the Chapter13 project to ADO.NET_Command. Rename the Form1.cs
file to CommandText.cs.

Case in point: Why are you creating a project with one name and than renaming it? This is simply stupid. Why not create a project named ADO.NET_Command in the first place? Well, it gets worse:

4. Drag a TextBox control to the form and position it toward the center of the
form. Select this TextBox control, navigate to the Properties window, and set
the following properties. Set the Name property to txtCommandText.

If you look at this code the author never references the control txtCommandText, instead the author references txtSQL which is not in the project or on the form.

This is the most ridiculous error I have ever seen, how can you reference something that does not exist?

Amazon needs to pull this book off it's shelves.

How can anyone with a conscience write this kind of book?

This is a sad day for programming.
